My 1st Gen. 84 Maxima (New to Forum)
Hey guys I'm new to the forum and just wanted to share my 84 maxima i just bought. It's in good condition! Interior/Exterior is very clean for its age, little marks here and there. Nothing unexpected. It has 134*** miles currently, and I will smog it tomorrow. Hopefully everything turns out good. I'm debating if i should keep it for school, main purpose i bought it for, or sell it, being that I already received offers within a week of having it. If i do keep it I will be slamming it, maybe get some different wheels, and put a nice set of blast pipes.
Anyways here are some pictures, let me know what you think!

Nope, rust free!! The body is an 8.5 out of 10. It just has 2 small dents on the fender, some sun spots, and minor scratches. everything else is in great condition.

keep the car, go to paint with pearl.com order some brown with some gold paint powder, that will look good with your gold rims, no need to slam it, trust the combination of the paint/rims will be so nice it'll turn heads for miles around

Dude, you have a beautiful car. I wouldnt do anything to it.
I am very jealous of the interior, I love the interior of these cars. I am restoring mine right now and it is a royal pain in the ****.
I wish so bad that I got one of the rare *** non sun roof cars. The sunroof is the ONLY part of my entire car with rust on it, and not much either.
But it was enough for me to strip the whole top out and get to work on it.
Ugh.

Decided i wont slam it, so no worries there unless there is major wheel gap. When i get the wheels with new tires it should go down a bit on its on.
Also my sun roof has a slight leak once in a while on the rear area of the headliner after washing the car. I blew out the front drains and ran water through and they are clear but i was unaware that there are also 2 rear drains so i have to get to those this weekend. Hopefully its not my seals or anything.
The weird thing is that it rarely leaks and when it does it's barely anything.
On a side note, i will be updating this thread with any changes or updates i've done to the maxxy. I did replaced the rear rotars last weekend, no pictures but i did smash my index finger pretty hard! haha Does anyone know a part number for brake pads for the 84 maxima? autozone and oreily told me they don't have them at all??

Whatever, you'll probably have to order them...

ive been in 1st gens, 2nd gens, owned a 3rd gen, etc. as far as i can tell at least, the quality of interior plastic in my $35,000 Toyota Crown is the same as my 3rd gen had

Take it to the Japanese Classic Car Show next year
Very nice 1st Gen. Keep it if you're willing to invest the time, and take it to the JCCS next year. I have two of them and mine were the only Maximas there this year. You've got an excellent example of the only RWD Maximas ever produced.

i found a few diesels but they are down south in l.a. which is 8 hour drive from where i live. i had an opportunity, which i should have taken advantage of, to go down a couple of weeks ago, but i did not take it

there's second gens here as well, i don't pay much attention to those though, but for the ones i have seen they are not in the best shape.

I smogged my new maxxy today, passed btw, and the guy was telling me not to buy the diesel maxims because they are illegal to have in ca because they never passed the air emission standards since they came out of the factory? but I've seen them for sale in california, not sure if they're registered or non op though.

Almost Perfect Maxima?
The only less-than-perfect item I see on your car is the small dent on the rear fender. Anything else on the car? Is the dash cracked at all? How's the sun damage on the rear seat?
I don't understand why the guy was telling you that diesel Maximas don't pass smog. It is my understanding that they have always been exempt. Current diesel smog inspections are for 1998 or newer.
Where are you finding these diesels? I occasionally see one in the junkyard (2 so far this year), invariably with the engine dumped on the ground and the crank ripped out, but never on the road. I picked up the oil pan from one (nice of the guy to take it out for me, but he messed up a bolt hole.) The diesel pans look like they take 6 quarts. Might be useful for a turbo build...
I'm currently trying to get some 16" or 17" rims for mine, as Yokohama discontinued the ES100s I use on my '84 300ZX rims and the successor S-drives don't have the 205/60-15 size. I saw some gold Panasport G7's on Memoryfab which look to be a perfect fit, but pricey at $2150. Maybe I can get something made for a 2005 Sentra and use custom spacers.

I find the diesels mainly near southern california. Already seen a few these past two months on craigslist. I'm having no luck finding the wheels i want in my area, I might have to buy them new.
