Did tranny honey help your automatic?

Just curious if any of you guys with automatic transmission problems have tried any of that tranny honey they sell at the car parts store?

What is tranny honey? Stuff like Lucas Transmission Fix or any tranny-fix-in-a-bottle kinda stuff.

Anybody have experience with these products? Were the results good or bad?

I've used the lucas on a taurus/sable with a banging/slipping trans. It did help a little, but there's no such thing as tranny in a bottle, none of them are guaranteed

Yeah, I know. I figured its worth $6 to possibly save thousands.

Worth a shot. I bought some stuff the other day and probably gonna pour it in this weekend. It wasn't Lucas, I forget the brand but will do it a review.

Not much to harm at this point, lol.

My max is already for sale as a parts car... but if I can breathe a few more months worth of life into it, and very little risk, its worth a try. My tranny is junk status now anyways, not much to lose.

Dino A/T fluid is warranted for 20kmiles. I suppose that one has 10x miles? Try that 10xxx speed on 20mph limit mountain road.

Its all electronics controlled, may be the only slip reason. Whattodo, see http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/15

Has it sucked ones air in? Bubbles do kill hydraulics.

What makes these trannies go?

Good Mornin!

I have a 92 Max GXE automatic. I see all these posts about automatic tranny failures............why are these trannies so darn fragile? I bought the car at 117,000km from an elderly lady who travelled back and forth to Florida from Canada each year. I had all the service history and the tranny oil hadn't been changed from what I could see. So at about 135,000km I had the tranny flushed and filled........timing belt and water pump replaced..............now I am at 159,000km. I have to replace a shifter bushing that is worn cause when I put her in drive she won't engage right away unless I tap the shifter back in the D position. What the heck? Teach me about these trannies..........please! I just joined the Forum after quiely lurking for a few months........

Okay, here's my auto tranny question: (if anyone can answer) I know the service guidelines for the ATF and what not, but I know puttin new ATF in an old tranny sometimes will actually hurt things (since the dirtier fluid actually helps the seals seal correctly.)

I bought my car at 133,000 and I'm now at 151,3xx...I haven't changed the fluid, and the tranny seems to be doing okay still. Should I put in new ATF...and where the f00k is the filter on this thing?

Scratch the filter Q. I just read it up. But still...should I take the time to do the change at this mileage?

I thought changin fluids was just good maintenance to prolong the life of vital components.............

why would one think its bad to change tranny fluid? leave the gunky bad old fluid to "lube" stuff up or use fresh new fluid.....seems to be a no brainer. do you flush your toilet? or do you wait til youve used it bout 50 times before you flush?

My tranny was slipping about a year and a half ago. I don't know if it was the TCU or the actual mechanics, but I just changed fluid as often as I did my oil. I put some slick 50 stuff in there, and it made it smoother but I don't know about it prolonging my tranny's life. Now, my tranny is solid, shifts smooth and rarely ever slips or shifts rough. BTW I used the chevron ATF, but those tranny additives will make your tranny feel smoother (the honey-like stuff) but actually helping it survive...I have no idea.

Talking about tranny problems, my reverse gear on my 90 gxe seems to be dying slowly. When I put it in reverse, at times it takes about 3 seconds before its in gear ( Not always) and today it wouldnt shift so I had to put it into neutral and back into reverse to coax it to shift. Are there any tranny additives that could help me??

ps - A month ago I was at pep boys to get new tires and car was sitting in the parking lot for a while, when I noticed a large pool of bright red fluid under the car and flowing away to some distance. I checked the ATF and it looked OK (not low) and tranny shifted fine. But last week I went to get an Oil change and the guy didnt mention anything but in the maintenance receipt that he handed me mentioned that there was a transmission leak. Just thought I'd add that.

i have a question i don't know if it's my tranny or if it's me not use to the car. but it seems like it shifts slow. not slipping but slow like half a 0.5 to 1.5 seconds between gears. I know the trannys good it was rebuilt 2 years. fluid is still good, proper level all that good stuff. are all 3rd gen max's like that or should i have it looked at? if it is normal anyone recommend something for faster shifts?
