Mine was exactly the same. Disconnect the drop resistor plug which is plugged into the harness that is attached to the vacuum reservoir which is attached to the left strut tower. (someone else may be able to describe it better)

The pwr/comfo sw uses/bypasses this A/T line press valve resistor, TCU Pin2. Easier to flip the sw...

Cause is bad TPS. See http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/6

There's a guy near here that rebuilds all makes/models' transmissions, and does a damn good job of it, rebuilding mid 90's Chrysler transmissions and allowing people to get another 200k+ miles out of it. If I think about it the next time I go there to get a filter for my truck's transmission (he's the only person in this area that can get brass screen filters for a th350 instead of the nylon ones), I'll ask him if he's familiar with the maxima trans and its faults. It'll be awhile before then though, I might see if I still have his card and give him a call instead. My tranny isn't giving me trouble yet, but Missouri/Iowa/Illinois auto owners might benefit from his services if he can rebuild them in such a way as to prevent future failure.

there's a VERY good reason that places don't really sell the brass screens anymore
Money
I'm pretty sure I can still get them though
