window won't stay up
1994 maxima GXE. went out to drive car today and the rear passenger side window was down. started the car and rolled up the window. started driving and could hear the window sliding down. tried several more times to roll the window up but it kept rolling down. had this problem about 10 years ago and they replaced the motor. i never use the window. any ideas that may be causing the problem, and is it something i can fix myself. since i don't use the window, can i lock it in place somehow?

Gotta be the window regulator. Although it's a bit odd that it you were able to get it to roll back up at all. Typically they actually break and WON'T go back up. Perhaps yours just hasn't totally failed yet. The regulators are a very common failure item on these cars.
If you don't use the window, you can pull the door panel off and use a metal clothes hanger to affix the window up. Take the upper "u" shaped part of the hanger and hook it under the window, bend/pull the rest down over the metal door frame and wrap it around the silver metal bracket deal that the door pull handle screws to. Works great, I've done it several times.
OR you can just drive a screw through the panel just below the glass so that the glass sits on it. You've got to do a good job lining it up as you obviously don't want to drive your screw right into the glass and potentially break it.
I've done both of these a dozen times over the years not just on my car but others in the family that had broken regulators I couldn't fix right away. If I have a drill and a screw, I prefer the screw method, as the clothes hanger method sometimes doesn't play nice with getting the door panel back on depending on the door panel design and how closely-fitted the door panel is to the metal inner panel.

Possibly the circuit on the switch is stuck in the down position? Have you tried swapping out the master window switch or the back door switch just to see what happens? If you have spares that is but you could probably get a couple if you ever go to your local scrapyards.

I have previously used this page to replace the window regulator. If you try it, it would be good if you have another person helping you. I remember it being a little tricky in terms of positioning the window.

I purchased the regulator on ebay. Just make sure it is the correct one - i.e. there will be a rear driver side and a rear passenger side. Looks like the one you are having trouble with is the rear passenger side.

Is there anything you can do when you have a bad switch, besides hunt the junk yard? My passenger side window and one of my rear windows both have bad switches. I confirmed this by swapping in the known good switch on the good rear window around as a test.
I pulled a few from junk yards in the past, but they eventually go bad as well.
Is there a new option for switch replacement? Or possibly a way to fix the old switches?
