My AE style headlights with a twist

I swaped my 96 glass lights for some 97+ TYCs, so i figured I'd mess with my old lights. I like the AE lights, but I don't think I've seen them with painted lenses. I did it like most others, but painted the rim of the glass too. I don't want to f**k my new lights just yet and I'd like to here your opinions. I'll mock them on the car once I do the other one (or if you like them, do the 97+ lights that are on the car now). Here are some pictures:

Hmmm, looks good but is probably not a good idea since painting the lense would reduce the effectiveness of the headlight. 9004 provides weak lighting already, painting the lense just makes it worse. But it looks cool! Still I wouldn't do it if it was me.

On a different note, someone told me that the 97 headlight is wider than the 96. So how are you going to make them fit? Unless you have converted your 96 front-end to a 97 meaning, 97 bumper + grille + corner lamps and other brackets that supports the 97 bumper.

No all 4th gen lights fit, just look at my homepage or sig I have 97+ lights. As for the light output... we'll see what happens. In theory, yeah some light will be lost, but in the real world will it really matter?

Oh I just finished the other 96 (AE) light and will put them in to see how they look....like I said I don't want to mess with my good headlights and ruin them.

Coool, thanks. Where did you get your 97 headlights and how much did you pay for them? Are the lenses glass or plastic? Did you notice an improvement? I heard that the 97-99 headlights are better than the 95.

I got the lights from some eBay seller, but not off eBay though he had and auction up for some lights. I paid $170 shipped, and they are plastic, and shizzo load lighter. There is a great impovement because the 97-99 lights have 1: multi reflectors, 2: clear plastic lens, and 3: a bulb reflector/dispurser? (I don't know what it's really called) in the middle and over/around the bulb. It produces a much better beam pattern because of these. The 95-96 lights produce a narrow beam where as the 97-99 produce a wide beam.

hmm..if you say that the foggy style produces a more narrow pattern whereas the clear style (97+) produces a wider pattern, then would you conclude that HIDs would be less scattered with the foggy style lenses?

Guess I'll keep an eye out on e-Bay. I also went to 1001 Headlights.Com and they have the TYC headlights for $96 each.
