Please help me to open the foglight housing for a retro fit...

I have these yellow bulb shells. The ones that the actual bulb goes into. I wanna do a retrofit kinda thing. I have the foglights removed from the car and I also have a heat gun. Ive pretty much destryed the one foglight trying to seperate the actual glass from the housing. Ive heated it a few times and scraped alot of glue out but this thing still wont seperate.
Does anybody have a very detailed and specific method of doing this??

If I remember correctly, you need to use a dremel with a cutting wheel on the grey plastic. When you are ready to put them back together, you need some sorta cement. It comes in 2 parts and you mix them together. I can't remember the name of it right now, but I'm sure another member will chime in.

Damn! lol. There I was with a stupid heat gun and a flat head screwdriver. Heat n chiseling out endless amounts of glue. I have this ridge running around the entire border of the lens but it still wont pop out. Guess I have to go charge my dremmel then. Grr...
This is frustrating.
Epoxy glue comes in 2 parts but I dunno if thats safe on plastic. Maybe some sort of silicone sealer? (for when I put it back together.)

Plastic weld.

Or you can stick it in the oven like I did and carefully detach the glass from the housing, but be VERY CAREFUL because the glass is extra hot and the plastic house is very soft.... Im not exactly sure how long it needs to be in there for, check the how-to's, for taking apart your headlights, the approx. degrees and approx. timelenght are in there.

I'd recommend some kind of epoxy instead.. I dunno how well JB weld will hold up when not applied to metal. And some caulk or silicone sealant or something, of course.

The oven technique worked!!! Forget the heat gun. I seperated the glass. This is still gonna take me a while to figure out. Next problem is to somehow make the hole that the bulb casing poked through the reflective backing just a little bit bigger. Hopefully, Ill have a chance to mess with this some more tonight.

I never heard of a hole saw. Hmm...Imma look into it. It has to be something that wont crack the reflective plastic. This stuff is super fragile.

A hole saw would crack it. It's basically a circular piece of metal with teeth and a drill bit in the center. Plus, to use a hole saw properly you need to start drilling without a center hole (which already exists because the bulb sticks through it) so that the drill bit part of the hole saw will provide a pilot hole, keeping the hole saw from skipping and tearing up the material.

You might be better off using some kind of rotary tool like a Dremel (with a very fine disc), but you're still risking some damage..

Thats some good info, right there! Thanks. Yea...I looked up a hole saw also. Maybe a fine sander attachment for my dremmel might do the trick. I have to see. The new bulb housing that Im using (yellow) fits. Its a matter of the metal that its attached to. I might modify the old piece and glue the new bulb housing to that. I have to look again.

Great!! Now I can be a little more bold when butchering these. lol. Ill let you know as I progress. If I do end up destroying them, Ill gladly pay shipping to take them off your hands. Btw, what did you do to your fogs?

Notice the chopped up plastic because I was first using a heat gun and chiseling away with a flathead. lol. Thanks again for the oven technique.

Sweet!!! I dont even know what I have. lol. I bought it on a whim from the classifieds. All I know is that the bulb housing is yellow and the wires on the bulb itself is a tiny bit different. Ill show pics of exactly what I have tonight or tomorrow.
I bet the IS300 fogs look amazing!

It would look better if the inside of the glass was smooth and clear and not wavy with those ridges.

I could be full of crap but I THINK those ridges help disipate the light. That way, they get a broader range beam pattern. Again...I THINK. lol. I agree, though. Would look better smooth but if they arent projectors, I think the waveyness is actually functional.

yea, thats what I was thinking, BUT if I have projectors already behind that.... it kinda defeats the point/purpose... meh

Ok. Let this thread die. I cracked the yellow bulb housing and that was the whole point of the project. It was a big crack. lol. Then I got mad and lets just say its f*ked. Thanks, to all those that had input.
Anybody wanna hook me up with some IS300 projectors or a new set of fogs? Anybody wanna buy the unmolested one? Passenger side, I think. Hit me up. Otherwise...let this one die.

I have some H3 projectors from a Honda, they are somewhat big but if you wanted to, you could "combine" them with the housing....so that it is easier to mount them to the car
I could give you approx length width depth measurements.... I am willing to let them go cheap. PM me if interested.
