VIN Decode for different models?
#1
With the '95-'99, can you tell the different models (SE, GLE, etc.) by the VIN number? Lots of times I see VINs on a for sale ad, but no model (Like on Autotrader.) I'd like to know what I'm looking at before I make the call if possible.

VIN doesn't reveal the model

The model of a 4Gen Maxima is found in the engine compartment, on a shiny metal identification tag fastened to the passenger side of firewall. The top row is the Vehicle Identification Number, starting with J. The second row is model information. The first five characters are BLHUL. The sixth character is the model designator:
E = GXE
G = GLE
V = SE

Well, gee. . .
That kinda sucks. That's how I was able to search AutoTrader and find my SHO as opposed to the regular model Taurus.
But now that you say that, well, DUH! I was checking the engine code. Gee, since all Max's have the same engine, that would kinda make sense, eh?
Go easy on me, it's STILL too early on a Monday morning.
