Nissan recommends an engine oil of API grade SG/SH, Energy conserving II or API grade SJ Energy conserving. All name-brand oils meet these industry specifications.

Nissan recommends engine oil with viscosity number 5W-30 for all ambient temperatures. SAE 10W-30 may be used if the ambient temperature is above zero degrees Fahrenheit.

There are ardent advocates of synthetic oils. I don't want to get involved in such "religious wars". I use ordinary "dino" engine oil in my Maxima. I can see how people who drive in truly extreme climate conditions would benefit from synthetic, but for most of us the ordinary (and less expensive) engine oil is fine.

I usually buy Havoline oil but have no particular allegiance to that brand. I buy whichever name brand oil is on sale that day.

Nissan recomend 5W-30 but i use Mobil1 10W-30 Synthetic because i can easely push it to 4500 to 5K miles between changes w/o worries and it takes a real beatten of my hard driving.....
