97 max 96 ecu

I know this has been talked about in the past but i cant seem to find what I'm looking for. I was wondering what exactly is need to convert a 96 ecu into my 97. Also, my 97 is a 5 spd...would i have any probs with an auto ecu besides the CEL? thanks.

no you would not have any problems running an auto 95/96 ecu in your car, but its no hard task to get your hands on a manual speed 95/96 ecu. once you get the ecu, unhook the one in your car and hook up the new ecu to check if it works, you can read your codes to see what all is going on with the new ecu. the car should crank right up and your good to go. then you just need to take it out and figure out which company you want to do the upgrade. i suggest jwt (jim wolf) or technosquare. i really like this mod for anyone looking to increase the performance of the max.

do you plan on upgrading the computer. i have 96 computer for my 97 which i got from the junkyard. if you have a stick you can still use a auto computer, you might throw a code every now and then but thats it. i got the 96 becasue its the only one jwt can reprogram.

yes you can, if you are auto you need an auto ecu. If you are stick you can use auto or stick.
