How do you adjust the trunk torsion bars? Make trunk swing open..

I am wondering how you adjust the trunk torsion bars to make the trunk lid swing open when you open the trunk.. I've read that you can adjust them, but how do you do it? When I pop open my trunk, it doesnt even move at all. I would like it to swing open on its own, anyone know how to make this happen? I appreciate any help I get.

Thanks,

-Nick

Hmmm, thats interesting. I thought it wasn't made to swing open by itself.

On my old car, there were notches on either side of the trunk under the rear deck. Each notch increased the torsion applied. On the first notch, the trunk just opened like the Maxima but didn't move. On the next notch it opened and raised about 2 inches up and on the final notch, where I kept it, it flipped open.

I didn't see any adjustment hooks or any other adjustment method on the Maxima. If there is a way, I'm highly interested as well.

I am intrested in this too. When you pop the trunk you don't even notice if its open.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one. I have a factory spoiler and I always thought it was the extra weight keeping it from popping up. I know factory Honda spoilers come with stiffer torsion bars, but I don't know if Max's spoilers come with them too. Anyways, any adjustment would be great. Good thread!

It would be awesome if it would lift up a little higher on its own. I would go out and look at mine but its pretty cold outside...

Mine's quite the opposite, I did a 97 trunk lid swap without a spoiler and it just flies open. My 95 trunk lid had a spoiler which might have slowed it down due to the extra weight? Other than the extra weight, there are 2 bars in the trunk attached by an orange plastic piece, that I think adjust the torsion. Not completely sure, haven't had time to check it out.

Dump the torsion bars all together. Do two linear actuators at the corners of the trunk. TO open trunk, press option 4 on your remote.

Then try and cram (2) 12" subs in IB in your rear deck. I haven't measured, but I think it's possible.

what if you accidentally pushed it and your trunk flew open? I remember I passed out on my bed one night from a rough night and I had my keys in my pocket, I woke up to see my car with the windows down and the trunk unlocked good thing i woke up at 6am and no one was around. I wish our remotes were more clickier than just a spring and a button. I know Honda remotes are clicky and a bit more force is needed to press them down.

Can someone actually provide us some information on how to make it pop up, rather than say "mine doesn't fly open either"?

on the ford taurus, the trunk goes open all the way. It does this with 2 long metal bars that function like a spring. There are sets of notches that adjust how much force it has. I haven't looked at the springs in the max, but i imagine it would be similar.

I'm sure it's not! Damm I don't like the thought of comparing Ford to a Maxima!!!! or any domestic for that matter.

I'm not comparing them, just noting how a self-opening trunk can be done. By the way i feel that the maxime is superior to the taurus in all respects.

could you use zip ties to hold them closer, if i remember right, when the trunk opens they twist, if you already pull them closer together, they should have more spring to them..... right?
i dont know, try holding them with your hands thro the ski hatch while you press the button, just watch you fingers...

BTW: i have a memphis 1000D mounted on my trunk lid, so someone figure this out...
