car hard to start after clutch install...

car hard to start after clutch install...

aight ladies and gents.. My mechanic replaced my clutch about 2 months ago.. After that the car has been hard to start. Like it takes awhile for the car to start, and when it starts its like reallly flodded. ALot of smoke out of exhuast. The car however starts very easy when pushed started. i replaced crank position sensor, and tps. Now the car is back in the shop because it need a new starter now, from tryin to start it on a very cold day. I told the mechanic its very hard to start, and it cant find out the problem. Is there any body who can lead me and my mechanic in the right direction to fixing it. Iv been without a car for like 1 month, please help..

i heard there were alot of horror stories about replacement of a clutch in 4 gen.. people say car is hard to start.. If this is true what is the answer to this problem

Hmm...I figured if you only experienced hard starting in gear then it might be that the clutch isn't disengaging properly and the motor is struggling in it's attempt to slip the disc.

I don't think spinning the input shaft alone would bog down the starter, but I may be wrong. The only other thing I can think of (besides a worn out starter) would be a real bad throw-out bearing.

i think theres shavings all over both CPSs thatll cause a hard start. clean them off and put them back.

theres also a ground wire that goes fromt he engine tot he tranny. if thats not connected then itll be difficult to start.

when they instlal the clutch, they have to remove the CPS sensor from the tranny, i watched them do my install, so when the removed it, i took off all the metal filings, and the car started much faster than previously.

any other information i check all the crank positon sensors no metal shavings... o and the ground wire is connected

The only other suggestion would be to have the starter checked out, and maybe replaced.

its not the starts, it wouldnt turn over if it was the starter. its starting its just taking a while to start. i had this problem and it was my camshaft position sensor. (didnt have my clutch replaced though) after about 1 month, my ECU finaly lit my CEL. and said it was my cps.

I dont see how thats possible, i've heard thats the case, but can you explain the physics behind it? its just needs to turn the flywheel with a certain amount of torque inorder to get your engine 'starting'. So how does a bad starter make it longer to start? it take a while for it to reach the maximum torque?

I dunno, im just speculating with my little knowledge... i could be completly wrong. however if someone makes a claim; i'd just like to see it backed up.

I can attest to it happening, as I just replaced my brother's starter as a result of it.

As for why it happens, I can only theorize:

* Bad connection causing an increase in electrical resistance
* Buildup of crap inside the housing causing an increase in physical resistance
* Bad bearings on the motor's shaft

If it doesn't turn the engine over fast enough, it won't start.

well if deff isnt the starter. the starter was repalced because it overheated from tryin to start the car so much.. anyways like i said I check all the crank and positional sensor the one on the bellhousing. they all look good. what eles could be the problem. However the car does start when pop started on a hill..

should i take it to the stealership or what should i do.. i took it to my local mechanic and he said he cannot fix it cause he dunno what wrong and also said his friend has a maxima in there shop and its having the same problem..so whoever knows what the problem would be would be a great help..

mines been doing this for months and now will just not start, i've been told a lot of diferent things and have done a lot of diferent things, my trany was rebuilt about 4 months before this started, no clue if its related or not but i do remmeber reading somwhere about a magnetic ring or somthing on the flywheel that could be missing or not installed properly thus giving the crank sensor nothing to read...could be wrong though...i def. hope somone replys to this that can figure it out...good luck, im swapping the motor with one thats only got 17k on it due to a falty timing chain on this motor, if it still doesnt start then i dont even know what to do

ive been told it could be the pressure regulator and the end of the fuel rail.. what does everyone eles think...

i had the same problem with my 96, right after the clutch install the car wouldnt start right. from what i was told the tranny breaks ground for some wierd reason when you take it apart. you now have to run a new ground to the tranny case and this should solve your problem.

Probably not - they rarely ever go out. You can always test though by tapping a fuel pressure guage in to check the pressure.

A few things to check

1 - voltage at the starter
2 - voltage at the injectors
3 - voltage at the coil packs
4 - fuel filter
5 - voltage at the crankshaft position sensor under the crankshaft pulley, and the voltage at the crankshaft position sensor that sits between the motor and the transmission case.
6 - check your ecu for any codes
