99 Maxima Starter got really weak then back to normal...

got a 99 maxima. well the starter got weaker and weaker and weaker within two weeks its slowly started turning over slower n slower by the day so i told myself time for a new starter well it got one day so slow took about 10 secs to start and then one time it stopped and made noises like the battery was completely drained. thought it was out turned it over one more time and the dam car turned over like i just put a brand new battery and starter in it.

i know the battery wasnt dead for sure but my question is what could cause this problem? here i am two weeks later it still turns over super fast i just wanna see if anyone else has ran into this problem before.

its 99 GLE with auto tranny.

Check your connections. Both ends of each cable.

If everything is connected and looking good, I'd say get ready to change it. Don't bother trying to clean + re-grease. When mine died, the cracking sound just started getting weaker and each day the sound would be totally different, like slower. It would also take longer to start the car, until one day it just completely died...absolutely no sound when trying to start the car. Replaced it.

Sounds like a ground issue, I would check to see if there is corrosion.

That was my thought, but just a likely the positive cable. If the starter is now good its a power issue rather than bad starter. Could also be bad contacts in solenoid, they tend to be intermittent before complyely dying.

I just got past a similar problem. I too thought the batt was OK, but after a couple weeks of slow starting I had it tested (easiest thing to pull) and it was s***. The alt was putting in 14.7V and the batt read 12.3 with the engine off, but on a computerized batt tester, after a 1/2 hour charge it only had 125 CCA when it should have been near 750. This was a 6 yr batt, after only 2 years. Just a suggestion to check this too.

well for anyone whos had this happen repeatedly in a 3 month period be prepared to change the alternator. i noticed my cel light getting dark when at idle and bright above 1200rpms since ive bought this car. well today it completely went out.

Just a heads up for you guys with similar problems. when i had autozone test alt it turned out good but apprently the stock nissan alternator will go a farrrr ways before it goes i just rolled over 231k.
