california car?? What is the diff??

I am looking at a 99' maxima se 5 speed, It is from california. What mechanical differences are there? Will my fed y-pipe and b-pipe still fit the same on it? (going to transfer over my exhaust) Does it have more o2 sensors, or less power, what is the main diff??

so what is the power diff? And where are the other 2 sensors located at? But the y-pipes are the same? So what you are saying is that my auto is probably as fast as a 5 speed? My auto runs 15.5 with heavy 18's.

I don't know why you would want a Cali-spec if you are not living in California. If you want to go from automatic to 5-speed, get rid of the 99 and don't buy another one. Look for a low-mileage 97 or 98 and avoid the infamous ignition coil problem inherent with 99s.

The Cali spec vs Fed spec discussion has gone on ad infinitum on this board and having been a member since February 2004 you shouldn't have to ask these questions.

Supposedly, the fed spec has a bit more power because the cali specs have a more restrictive emissions system. I am not sure on this because I've never drove a fed spec. But that is the general consensus.

Look here for the o2 locations. Credit: Jatan

The Y-pipe is not the same. Different design.

Never said the auto is as fast as a stick. Autos are slower in every way. The only advantage of an auto is, it is not prone to human error.

Also go to FAQs and read post 40. Your aftermarket y-pipe will not work on a Cali spec as only one pre-cat is removed on Cali and they have one more 02 sensor than Fed spec.

yes it is, they build it ****ty and it is forever ****ty, it cant get better, it can only get worse, unlike "human error". if an auto is screwed it cant learn from its mistakes

Are you talking about cali-spec's or what? Although I've never driven a fed spec 5sp, my cali spec 5sp feels fast.. I doubt there is much difference between the autos and 5sp's in fed. and cali. Although, maybe there is a very small difference..

I guess i only look at things on here that attract my attention and pertain to me. I don't read every post on here, my god i have a life you know. If i read every post on here i would be sitting in front of my computer all day, and that would leave less time to be cleaning or toying with my car!!! And the question about the "I don't know why you would want a Cali-spec if you are not living there" Because theres one for sale by me a 99' 5 speed se with only 38000 miles and in mint cond. like my auto. My wife gets mine. I only have 54000 on my 99' so they both should last. And im not going to not buy a 99' because of the coil probs, they all have that prob sooner or later, like the knock sensor.
