vq30 vs vg30 vs vq35

I've got a 97 with 160,000 miles. Looking to do some "preventative" maintenance and get an upgrade in January. At first I wanted a VQ35 but the price difference between the 35 and the 30 is insane. Is it worth the extra $ in the long run to get the 35? As far as aftermarket n/a parts go, maintenance. I dont think I will ever boost it since it's fwd, but I just want a car that will get up and go and handle very well. So far the Maxima has done all of that, but I want to throw a new motor in it before this one dies. It may seem like a silly question but look at my post count i'm used to DSM's and this is my first nissan. Also are there any options as far as rebuilding/stroking the motor? Or is there no aftermarket support for that? I'm going to get the swap done by a shop, and upgrade the clutch at the same time. Is there anything else I need to look into? Engine management etc.?

You can get a VQ35 ready to drop into the car from Tilley for something like $1800. NA 4.5 gens are running 13s with one or two other mods. Your current engine still has plenty of life though. These VQs will do 250K as long as they are regularly maintained. There are a couple stroker kits for the 3.5 but as far as I know, no one on this board has done it due to the cost. You can take some internals from a 3.5 and drop them into the 3.0 to stroke it; visit the All Motor forum for more on that.

IIRC AEBS had a stroker kit for the 3.5 to 4.2 all for just $5000+

Who/Where is Tilley? I would love the 3.5 but thats a big cost difference, I am also looking to get a motorcycle, I may just ride the current motor till it dies and sit on the $.

Do you know how to read? Honestly, read the whole thread before posting a question that can be answered a few posts above yours.

Sorry Steve but I don't. If I did, I'd be giving more thought to a 3.5 swap.

What's the difference? You're gonna need one of those no matter which engine you decide to swap in...

Uh, I'm not the OP. My statement refers to the fact that I would be giving more consideration to a 3.5 swap IF I had a cherry picker. But because I do not, I won't be swapping one in and instead, putt along with my VQ30.

The vg30 is a 3rd gen motor and would not be an easy swap. All motor section is your friend

Why would someone want to swap a vg into a 4th gen? It's heavier and has less torque throughout the powerband. It doesn't rev as freely. This is akin to taking out a 3.5 in an altima and swapping in the 2.4 KA.

Go rent one. I called a couple of places and one was $15 for 4 hours or $25 for a day.

Yeah, you see I was going to swap in a $1000 motor for some power, *yawn* but didn't because I don't have an engine crane.

An engine crane you can either buy for a couple hundred bucks or rent for even less, is hardly on top of your obstacle list.

http://www.mytoolstore.com/astro/asthyd08.html <--- first link on google that wasn't a DIY build guide... could probably find for cheaper if you tried.

How about you STFU since you know absolutely nothing about my circumstances? What are you, another 16 year old who's parents gave him a 4th gen? Try having a mortgage, a 50+hr/wk job, and a real life. While you're swapping an engine, I'm saving for a new car. ***.

It wont die unless you drain the oil and lay a birck on the throttle ... then get a beer and check on it after you consume that beverage.

Yes but too much $$$... 3.5 is the way to go.
