Ignition issues only when hot
Hey everyone, I have been having some issues with my ignition and was wondering if anyone had any advice.
Whenever the interior of my car is hot, my car will not start. I've checked everything under the hood, all of the grounds, everything that is connected to the starter, etc. I don't think the problem is under the hood because as long as the interior is less than 70 degrees or so it works fine, even if the engine bay is hot.
When I turn the key to the start position I hear a click and my clock turns off, my radio, my radar detector, etc. as things normally do in the start position. The only problem is, the actual starter doesn't work. Sometimes I have to wiggle the key or slam it from off to start back to off back to start as hard as I can.
Is there any specific part in the ignition that I can replace without having to get the whole ignition part that would require me having to get new car keys also?

Indeed, if you're having to move the key around, I would replace the ignition switch.
Some have fixed some 'slop' between the pin behind the lock cylinder and the ignition switch, which has fixed their problem.
If you do decide to replace it, (in my area) I've noticed the dealer to have it the cheapest and actually in stock:
48750-1E411, $30.86 each at Courtesy

If the ignition switch doesn't work, check your battery cables. I was having the same problem you were, every once in a while I'd move the key to start, click, and EVERYTHING would die. It's because the negative battery cable was loose and when the starter tried to pull enough current, the connection to the battery terminal shorted and tripped the breaker.
I know it's not related to your problem per se, but it's worth looking at because it's a fairly common thing and it created the same effect that you're having.

Thanks for the help guys, I probably am going to try replacing this today.
I tore through the FSM's and can't find anything about the ignition in the index or the electrical section. Does anyone have advice on how I go about changing this switch?

Actually I might do a little picture tutorial on doing this, since everywhere else it's explained no longer has pictures. Really simple, only takes like 5 minutes.

Hi guys,
My grand-dad's '95 Maxima SE is having this sort of problem.
He drove it on a 9 hour drive through the mountains, stopped 4-5 times and it started no problem. he stopped at the mailbox on his street on the way in, and when he got back in the car to start it, nothing happened.
I went up to see it and you turn the key, all the lights come on, but nothing. No click that I can hear, nothing.
I am letting it sit over night to see if its a heat related issue, but otherwise I am leaning towards the ignition switch or the starter. Any suggestions?
