VQ35 cam adapters

Well today i spent some time making a cam spacers/adapter. This will allow use of 3.5 cams in a 3.0 application without having to pull cams and send them too me to drill. Price will be 100 shipped for 2 intake adapters/2 exhaust spacers.

What kind of gains are had from putting the vq35 cams into a 3.0 out of curiosity?

no its for swapping 3.5 cams into a 3.0.. my question is dont the 3.5's have vvt?? im guessing that the extra set of lobes dont interfere? it would be great if you had a dyno of stock vs. 3.5 cams..

The intake cam timing is retarded and advanced relative to the crankshaft for optimum volumetric efficiency at different engine speeds, throttle angles, etc. There is no variable valve lift.

The 3.5 engine has much more aftermarket support (350Z). Therefor many companies make cams that fit the 3.5, not just JWT as is the case for the 3.0

Great job Tilleys

Just to update everyone, I ordered a set of JWT spacers from Tilley for my 3.5 swap. When I spoke to him a week later to ask him about drilling my cams, he stated that the adapters will work for the 3.5 swap and we won't need to send him the cams to be drilled anymore. So everyone is correct.

I need a set of them pretty soon. Your PM box is full Tilley so I will probably call you.

Are they just as strong as the drilled/spaced method? I ask because one of my friends has had a few of his aftermarket cams break on him.

I'm guessing you will realistically see around 10whp depending on mods. That is with 3.5 cams. You could go with JWT or the knochoffs:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CAMS-...spagenameZWD1V

Those claim "16 whp" however, I think that's more likely in a 3.5 motor.

If you really wanna dream about how much they will open up your peak HP, check out 96sleeper's Dyno and speculate....

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=465133

(hope that helps)

Actually, he modifies the JWT spacers so that the it will actually be a spacer/adapter. Once I receive mine, I will try and take some pics to post up. Again, I am just going off how he explained it to me.

I just wanna know that this is ALL i need to buy to swap the timing components to the 3.5. If it is, it'll be great, as I wouldnt have to take out the cams.

How much valve overlap is dialed in with these adapter/spacers?

If you use 3.5 cams with 3.0 timing equipment both cams need spacers.

Has anyone tried to order these or spoke to Rob? I ordered mine about a month ago and I call and leave messages just about every other day but haven't heard from him in two weeks. Does anyone know if he is on vacation or something.

I understand. I am a very patient person but I ordered the spacers around the second week of April. He received the spacers from JWT about a week and a half later and said he would mail them out the following week. This is coming up on the beginning of my 5th week. The main concern is that I am leaving messages and have not heard back from him. And he is usually better than this. He usually calls me back 5 days later...(LOL), but now it has been about 2 weeks and I have everything else to do my swap. Not to mention the shop my engine has been sitting in is getting impatient since its been there for 3 weeks waiting on the spacers/adapters. Hopefully this week like you said.

that's a bit troubling, i have to do 2 3.5 swaps in the coming month, and i need these adapters asap.

I hear you. The thing he did explain to me is that he is easier to make the adapters all at one time so in my case he was waiting on somemore to come in from JWT before he actually did the modifiction. So its like I end up being the first to purchase and have to wait. I don't forsee a long wait on future orders but this is hurting me since I have been waiting for so long and I don't have a clue when to expect them.

10 WHP? Who said that? The only thing that we know for sure is the 3.5 cams have 10% more lift.

I was leaning towards the SARD. But now I go back to ebay to buy and there gone except for a seller in Asia which I am trying to stay away from just because of shipping time. The only reason I don't want the Nismo is because I can't hook a FP guage directly to it like I want to. I figured the SARD with a Summit racing FP guage would do the trick. But I wasn't to worried about that because that is later in the process. Just want to swap the internals and drop the motor in.

Make up your mind already because you're doing the research for the both of us!!

I was pretty dead set on the nismo unit for a while but am looking elsewhere for the same reason you are.
