How do I disable the steering wheel lock and/or remove the ignition?

So last night my key broke while I was getting into the car. Being that I am lazy and dont care I took both halfs of the key and stuck them in the ignition so I could get home. It worked fine then and worked for most of today, except for about an hour ago when I got out of class. I guess the half that is inside the ignition moved and now isnt lined up right so now it wont turn.

So I took apart the ignition and started the car with a screw driver and just as I was about to pull out, I realized that the steering wheel lock was still engaged. I spent a while messing around with the lock cylinder trying to figure out how to take it off or disable the steering wheel lock but I couldnt figure it out.

Anyone know how to disable the steering wheel lock? I only had one key to this car, so now if I want to use a key Ill have to replace ALL the locks on the car which isnt going to happen. Im just going to mount the plastic ignition back piece somewhere and run a few kill switches and leave it like that, but I need to know how to unlock the steering wheel.

call a locksmith and he will get the key out for you and make you a new one.

if you have AAA they usually cover $100

did you try flipping the key over so the break in the key lines up & allows the key to slide in completely?

pretty sure the dealership can look up the key code from the cars information and make you a new one, no clue how much it will cost. locksmith is a good idea too, im sure it is much cheaper

Ya I found a locksmith that can make me a new key, and I have AAA and I didnt know they would cover up to $100 so Ill give them a call too.

Yes I tried turning the key around, the broken piece just isnt lined up right.

I called the dealership and my car is too old, they do not have my key on file any longer.

Has NO ONE here ever taken appart the ignition key cylinder before?

Just turn the steering wheel the lock will break. The wheel will never lock again.Or else you could drop the steering column remove the trim and drill the bolts out for the key cylinder.

I could sell you a set of locks with a key as well.

Well turns out AAA was able to come out and get the key out and make me a new one, so no need to destroy the existing ignition hehe. Thanks guys.
