cold start sensor for 1997 Nissan Maxima

Hi Guys!

Could you please give me part number for cold start sensor its for 1997 GLE Nissan Maxima.

I think its right part to replace, because when my car is cold and was not used for few days, and I start it up it starts with very high rpm, then when I start to shift into R or D, it feels like car is choking not enough power. so i have to gas up a bit and at same time to hold brake. after all of it is done car acts like nothing happened. all of it happens when its cold weather outside, but when its warm nothing happens.

Did i diagnose my car problem correctly?? How to replace cold start sensor on engine? can i do it by myself or should take car to shop?

Thanks for your replies!

When you cold start the car, the RPMS SHOULD be high, and get lower as the car warms up.

Are you talking about the engine coolant temperature sensor, if you are, it's very easy to replace, but I am not sure that this is your problem.

there is no "cold start sensor". a cold motor will have a high idle that will slowly go down as the car warms up. now if your rpms are at 3000, then that is a problem. If the car is about to cut off when the motor is cold, you most likely have to celan your Iac Valve.

my problem is that when its cold outside, and i start driving i can feel some hesitation's from engine like its chocking not enough power especially when i slow down from higher speeds to lower speeds and rpm starts to drop rapidly and car either shuts off or i have to quickly gas up to increase speed. after i drive a few blocks around it goes away ie car is warmed up enough.

do you think its this problem? i should replace engine coolant sensor?

where its located? whats part number if i decide to buy from nissan.

thanks

as I stated. you probably need to clean your IAC Valve. Engine coolant temperature sensor will give you a problem once the car is hot, not cold. your problem is the reverse. you probably have an IAC Valve filled with oil and carbon that is stiff when cold not allowing enough air to flow through. before you go buying random parts, clean your throttle body and IAC Valve.

I doubt very much your mechanic cleaned the throttle body properly. It has to be taken off to be cleaner properly and most shops will simply spray it and wipe it down.

here is the link on how to clean your IAC Valve.

If you are in NYC and cant do it yourself let me know and I may be able to do it for you.
