How much is my car worth before totalled?

My insurance have offered me $3500 to replace my car because they deemed it to be totalled. This seems quite low to me as it seem I cannot find a Maxima SE (actually can't find any 5-speed) in my area for remotely around that price. Any org members out that has their 95 Maxima SE model totalled give me a rough estimate as to how much the insurance paid you? I live in northern California if that helps. Thanks.

1995 Maxima SE 5-speed
Its only got the conveniece/security package. No leather or bose.

just print out recent listings of cars very similiar to yours and prices and bring it to them. get a GOOD AMOUNT. i've heard cases of being able to bump up around 500$ or aleast the lowest value. If any mods or maintence recpiets are aviable attempt to present that as well. 3500$ isn't a low ball for a 95 5sped. because honestly i've seen 97-98's go for 3k a 5 speed car is cheaper then a automatic in every case so it would be hard to argue the 5speed being worth more.

Just feeding you some ideas and theories to go by. not sure the cali market also

I think that's pretty decent. Our cars have crap for re-sale value. Considering yours is a 95. Do what Turtle said and maybe get a few bucks more.

How many miles on yours? I got $5250 for my 95 GXE when it was totalled. It was in good condition with 110,000 miles on it. IIRC I got the price bumped 250 dollars, also I believe they based it off the kbb value.

how long ago was this? Keep in mind when a new gen of a car is introduced the previous gens drop in value. It happens to all cars. When the 6th gen came out I remember my car dropping almost $2k over night in value.

It was after the 6th gen came out, I'd say close to about 2 years ago .

try pulling some in cali where he is at. but $2400 for a average run of the mill maxima. what the insurance guy see is its a 96 which is newer and offered for less. they dont really look at how well it looks and junk. mileage, year and that is your cut. what does nada.com kbb.com state you should get. if its higher on there definally bring that up. some people get lucky and some people dont. my friend bought a 93 intrgra for 700$ and this lady hit him, her insurance gave him $2100 + keep his car. he wins reguardless. sometimes 3500 isn't a low ball and sometimes it is. Just try methods. your probaly not getting 5k like the other dude. I recently ask my agent how much my fully loaded max was if i was to crash and with 95k load 98 i was able to get 5500 if something was to happen where they deem dead.

Thanks for all the replies guy. The mileage is 148,000 miles. The problem is that I can't find any 95 maxima se being sold locally here on the newspaper (even near the bay area). The insurance company tried to use the Maxima GXE sold locally as the basis for their prices.

Dashan, that ad is being run all over craiglist not just cinncinati locally. Probably not legit if you ask me.

I was given $4700 for my '96 max when I totaled in in July. It had 146k on it. The insurance person I spoke to said they go by how the car sells in your area for the amount of money you get. So I went and bought another '96 max with the insurance money I got lol

What do you think? Buy back and repair. Only the front bumper and lights are damaged. Can't believe they call this a totalled.

Clear corner, aftermarket fogs, and touch up paint if you're on a budget. New bumper, clear corners, and paint if you're not. Totalled hahaha!

I can't believe the value of our cars are so low in the US. Up here in New Brunswick, Canada, 95's are still selling for around $5-7K CDN, and 99's are anywhere from $7K - $9K CDN.
Just to be sure, I had an appraisal done on my car to keep the value of it up, just incase something like this happens. If you know someone who does appraisals, go talk to them and see if they have done any appraisals on Maxima's and what kind of prices they've been seeing. If you can, get them to write something up for like a generic price for a '95 with your options and km's. Some appraisers will even knock that value up a little if you throw them a few $

Nope. The only damage are the ones in the pics. The car has never been in any accident previously too.

Update. The insurance company refuses to bulge on the price of my car. They said that they based it on what a company called CCC gives them. I tried to give them a printout of what a Maxima SE sells nationally but they won't take it. In California I only found a few through cars.com and autotrader. Again they wouldn't take it as they keep going back to what research CCC gives them. I looked at the report of CCC. There were 6 cars sold but 4 of them are GXE and 1 of them is a GLE. Plus I just found out that the party at fault has no insurance. Guess maybe thats why my insurance wants to lowball me. They have to pay for it themselves.

Then I would certainly get a buyback price from them.

I don't knwo how it is in your state, but everywhere that I have lived, the insurance company is required by law to make an offer that is sufficient to allow you to replace that vehicle with one that is comparable to your loss. Their requirement is to make you "whole,"" meaning that they must provide compensation sufficient to have what you had before. Failure to do so is considered bad faith where I reside, and they can be sued for the infraction.

What was the high-low spread on the ones listed by CCC?

NOW we get the whole story this makes sense as the party at fault will now be sued by ur insurance company for the money they give u, and we all know how long law suits take...

the laws here are different, but i dont think u have much choice, fighting with an insurance company is like throwing bricks at a stone wall, u accomplish nothing.

What is the "adjusted" part?

I knwo that is may neb a painfully slow process, btu don't rush into signing anything. Remember, if they will let you do a buyback, you could fix ALL of that for under $1000.

If you don't know how a buyback works, they take the "value" of the car and then deduct the buyback cost and you get a check for the difference, BUT you end up with a salvage/branded title.

Did you buy it from a dealership or private party? In WV, VA, and NC, they have to only use vehicles from the same source type as how you purchased yours, if available.

The adjusted value is for the mileage difference and the options on the car. I bought the car from a private party.

I'd highlight that SE for $4900 and ask them why your car is not worth that much, adjusted for mileage.

The attributes of an SE- the body trim, interior differences, alloy wheels, spoiler, etc. are unique to an SE. You don't want a GXE- you want another SE. They must facilitate that.

Just out of curiousity, what did you pay for yours, and how long ago?

Shhsss. Don't tell anyone $2800, San Francisco 5 months ago.

They deducted the price for $1300 for the mileage difference and $283 for the leather interior. For some reason the scan of the adjusted price of the second picture didn't show up. It has been corrected now.

Normaly they write off a car when the dashboard gets messed up. To me that looks like a new bumper, front impack cusion thing, and some new lights... 3 G's Max if you want to get it painted nicely.
