Rack & Pin bad on the max...

Means the car is probably gonna get traded in and I'll get owned with car payments. I heard this is a expensive job and the car is worth maybe 1500 bucks. Also the car has a oil leak coming from right side of the engine.

Wow, to get this car running properly will probably be a 3000 job.

Time to look for a replacement.

Looks like the right side of the engine, the mechanic didn't tell me the exact place but it was right above the belts. I touched the oil myself.

The rack and pin leaks alot of power steering fluid, my car is particular has bad axles, as well as bad cv joints so I hear clicking when I turn the wheel.

Guys, the oil leak might be the Oil Pressure Sending Unit. Costs, umm...a few bucks and takes 10 minutes, if that. You dont have to jack the car up or drain the oil or anything. Search for it and see if that helps solve at least your leak issues. Its a very common Max problem and so easy to fix.
I dunno anything about the rack and pinion. Ill wait for somebody else to chime in on that.

Oil leak might be your rear valve cover gasket, which you can do yourself.

Steering rack can be done if you have the time, working space and tools:

Personally, I would take the time to fix the problems instead of taking on large car payments for an unknown amount of years. Best thing is knowing your ride is paid for!

Those estimates seem high.

The oil leak could be several things, some are relatively easy to fix. OPS is common leak point and very easy. Could it be that you have PS fluid leaking, and that is the source of this "oil"? (just asking)

The rack should not be a $700 part. There are rebuilt racks out there for a fraction of that price, and the labor should be around 4-5 hours. Find a shop that doesn't hammer you with book rate.

Online search - Power Steering Pro's

Nissan Maxima SE rebuilt power steering rack $265 core $150.
Your cost after core is $165 bucks.

A replacement rack, installed should be about 3 - 4 hrs shop time plus an alignment.
165 parts
~200 labor
75 alignment

Total Est. $440

The oil leak needs to be looked at closer to determin where it's coming from.

I had someone bring my max to the dealership for a quick overview, they said my power steering was leeking and it will cost $2k to fix. So I can definetly see $3k to fix your car if you bring it to the dealership. Find a good independent shop and use good aftermarket parts or good used parts.

Went to another mechanic, he said it's a tranny leak and it coming from under so bin somewhere, he said it's 600 bucks and he'll drop the engine and reseal everything.

He's a Jamaican guy, owns some racing shop but I don't trust these guys to much anymore, I want to go to a certified Nissan mechanic.

Found a shop in Hollywood that would do it for 300 total with installation.

I don't know how good they are but it's a 1 year warranty on the part.
