Keyless entry not working

I have a 96 maxima SE with 185k miles on it. The keyless entry system just stopped working on me one day. I tried buying a new battery and even using a spare remote. It still wont work. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Maybe this is a dumb question but have you tried to reprogram it after the battery replacement?

I have the same problem...my remote just stopped working. I've tried re-programming the remote..both my spare and my reg one but it's not working. I get into the program mode but the car won't read either remote. I've checked fuses and all changed the battery...any help would be grreeaattly appreciated.

You can check to make sure your keyless entry fuse isn't blown.
OR
You may have a bad control unit. The brains of the system are in the power window switch assembly on the drivers door. This unit fails in one way or other.

How would I know? The switch is working fine windows roll down door locks all good. I don't know what it is ...It was working fine and all of a sudden stopped working. Fuses are good relays are good...is there anyway to bypass the keyless entry? It's not even letting me start the car

You have some other problem I think.
How far do you get when trying to start? do the instrument lights come on?

It sounds like something has activated your inhibitor relay.
Here are the steps to put the door lock system into diagnostic mode:

You should search the web for the field service manual in PDF. I downloaded it a while back and it is VERY useful. Sorry, I forget where I downloaded it from. I'd email it to you but the file is 31MB.

Oh yeah--here are the diag codes:

I would bet your theft warning relay has been activated and it's keeping you from starting the car.

Ever since i took off my old tint from my rear window the keyless entry just stopped working. Could it be something that has to do with the defroster lines?

I believe the antenna for keyless is in the rear window glass, maybe you cut or broke the antenna lead. Try your remote very close to the remote control unit in the trunk. You should still get confirmation flash when you reprogram the remote.

Had this happen to me yesterday. I tried to reprogram the remotes but the hazards would not flash after I pressed the remote lock. So, I went in the trunk and disconnected the alarm box (it's on the same side as the jack behind the carpeting) disconnected the wires and voila! the remotes programmed after I reconnected the two harnesses.

I've been on extended vacation!

I sold my 95 GXE, bought a 99 Spyder GST sold it, got an 01 Xterra sold it, got a 01 BMW 740IL sold it (Lemon), 02 Saab 9-3 convertible(don't hate, it was my wife's) sold it and got a 04 Durango LImited(HEMI!) and a 05 Jaguar X-type which I still have and love. But as of 1/1/09 my father in law was gonna trade his 98 I30 in for an E class (damn him, that's what I wanted but couldn't afford one so I got the Jag) so I offered to buy the i30 and got a sweet deal $2500 and it has 142,000 pampered dealer kept miles. Not to mention that he put new Bridgestone tires on the 2001 SE wheels I gave him when I traded my 95GXE so many years ago. OHH, I almost forgot, my wife had a 03 Jeep wrangler w/6" lift on 37" tires but she didn't like to go grocery shopping in such a tall toy plus the dog fell off twice trying to get in. So when her adored Weimaraner fell, out went the Jeep and in Came the Saab.

Well it's great to be back. My I30 makes my buddies at work jealous when I tell them that the Infiniti is the beater! I already got 35% tint on all the windows and put a 10" sub hooked up to the bose with an ipod plug and I also cleaned out the headlights with the Mother's cleaning ball and Brasso.

One thing for sure, I'm not in college anymore so I can afford more toys now. Well, until my wife finds the receipts on the night stand

What can I say I love cars, but I like confortable cars, not so much really fast ones and I don't like rice burners.

may have already done this but doesnt hurt to help

the fuse under the hood that says bsm may be blown... mine blew because i was trying to install the shock sensor and im still workin on it ... now my alarm doesnt sound when one of my door locks are manually unlocked when the system is armed....but yea i spent about a half a hour lookin for the problem... after i popped my hood open three times i decided to check the bsm fuse... and it was blown...that did stop my door locks from working how they should..but now its fine well besides i cant get this alarm to sound and the schock sensor to work

key insert sensor

I bought a 98 maxima 5 speed and it didnt come with a keyless entry remote.
So i got one off the intraweb and went to program it but i can't get into programming mode...
so i opened the door and inserted the key. no buzzer.
i am assuming that that sensor isn't working somehow someway
any ideas on how to either a) fix the senor or b) get into programming mode a different way
Thanks
-Matt

My ignition switch is kind of warn and you can pull the key out while its not completely in the off position, even the radio can stay on and you can pull the key out... if the key doesn't get turned off completely then the remote wont work

same problem

How does the key fob connect to the car? Is it through the antenna? Someone said it might be the defrost lines.

I just ordered two new key fobs I hope I can just reprogram them.

I still want to fix the one that I have I want to know the problem.

And anyone else chime in on this?

there is a box in the trunk that uses the rear defrost lines to send a signal to the unlock the doors. i had to replace the one in my 95 a few years back, but only cause the stupid a$$ body shop blew it out while they were welding and didn't ground properly.
