Cruise control quit working

I knew it was bound to happen…the cruise control quit working in my 95 Maxima. What should I do first to try and fix this?

The rubber bumpers on your brake/clutch pedal probably rotted and fell out. They are tucked under the dash a bit higher up on the pedals near the switches.

The green light is visable when I turn the Cruse on but I’m unable to set the speed. When I’m at the desired speed I hit the “set” button but nothing happens.

I actually changed the rubber Grommet on top of the brake peddle two years ago. Tail lights stay on when this piece is missing

@islanddean, is yours an Automatic? As @schmellyfart mentioned, us manual guys have an additional switch that interrupts Cruise when the clutch is pressed. My cruise quit working some years ago, but I'm pretty sure I robbed the plastic button from the clutch pedal and moved it to my brake pedal when that plastic failed. I recently bought a new cruise cancel clutch switch because it was on sale, but I haven't taken the time to do any troubleshooting. Like you, my cruise enable light turns green, but it will not set.

There are two rubbers on the brake pedal switch, one for the lights, one for cruise.

komik, youll need the rubber present on both clutch and brake pedals for cruise to work.

Well great. Now I have four failure points to worry about. I thought there was only one brake pedal switch and then the two clutch pedal switches (cruise cancel at the top, starter at the bottom). I guess I need to fix a few plastic tab points if i want my cruise to work.

My ride is an automatic and I’m familiar with the rubber bumpers at the top of the brake peddle. I had to install a new bumper several years ago because the tail lights stayed on when the engine was off

I’ve read several posts about something to do with something on the throttle body.
