Water pump replacement price....

Hi everyone,
I am just wondering what the general going price to have the water pump replaced on a 4th gen Maxima? I just picked up my car today, the the bill was $550.00, did I get hosed? I gave the shop the new water pump, belts, and oil and a filter, so no parts were included in the $550.00. IS that about the going rate for this job?

Thanks,
Zack

Eww.... that seems kinda steep for just that. The water pump is the hardest of all the things you just mentioned but even so it shouldn't run over 350.

I would have them put in a new front crank seal too. If they use an old one an oil leak can develop.

What does the crank seal have to do with the parts he had replaced?

i just had mine fixxed. i brought him the pump and he did it for $300 and without telling me he replaced the crank seal charged me $30 to put it in and buy it, he put a new ignition switch in it charged me $35 for part and $50 to put in.

hes a friend so did a damn good deal for me, everything cost me $420 and he filled with antifrease and everything did a damn good job.

$550 just labor you got srewed pretty bad, that about is much as the dealer charges to do the same job.

i had 3 other mechanic quote me $400 to do it and i thought that was crazy. i wouldn't be TOO mad about paying 550 labor because i know how hard of a job it can turn into and know they need to pay their bills and make money two.

If they would have provided ALL the parts, OEM parts at that, then it might've been justifiable but 550.00 seems a bit steep for a water pump that took me 45 minutes to do on my cousins 95...

What is the shop's labor rate and how many hours they tell you it'd be?

Before I worked on my cars, the day after buying my 3rd gen in 2005 I took it to the shop to have the following things done and I only paid $450 for parts AND labor and 50,000 miles/5 years later I'm getting close for that whole job again but I'm doing it myself this time.
-Timing belt
-Water pump
-Thermostat
-All belts
-crank seal
-cam seals
-Full tune up
-oil change

i got charged 300$ for labor but i changed all the motor mounts and oil retainers and some sensors and the motor got compleatly removed out of the car
so i wont say hosed but the price was steep
