changing the alternator 96 max
#41
I've been watching this video to prepare for it.
I'll be working on a street in my neighborhood since I can't get it into my driveway (It's completely dead), but I don't think that should be a problem:

ok i moved it into my driveway so I'm good. Loosened everything on top of the alternator bolt, just having trouble finding the lower alternator bolt. Do I have to move the AC Condenser to get access to it?

Nvm got the lower bolt Didn't even have to move the AC condenser and all that ish. So just gotta remove the top bolt and the clip and I'll pull it out from the top. Removed fans nd etc. as well
Also, friend gave me jack stands!

How do you get the alternator electric clip out? ONly thing keeping me from yanking it out
I unbolted the AC thing so I could make room to move it out of the top. But this freaking electrical connection! Won't budge at all

So do I have a faulty alternator? Car starts and runs like a dream with all electricals working better than ever. However, when I start pressing the gas the brake light & battery light come on. I've been reading around that it's related to the alternator.
I don't have a voltmeter, any suggestions? Runs fine

no worries, that's normal. it's charging the system so it's throwing out the lights at you until it the battery is fully functional and charged. as long as it starts and runs i bet the lights will go off. mine did the same thing first few miles. if not, you might have a bad alty right out of the box. gl

so, no other codes other than the alty taking a $hit on ya?? it's possible to get multiple ****ty alternators, i used a 125 amp one from napa with lifetime warranty. first one was bad in like 8 months, still have the second one but it likes to whine after warming up. there's something else like a relay or a short going on somewhere. gl

alternator
lets just say because of the frozen ac bolts , the job took wayyyy too long .. 4 hrs for removal of the alternator and 30 minutes to put the new one on. 170 seems like a great price to me. but my mechanic quoted me 300 for the whole job with parts included so i did it myself. Breaker bar and impact wrench a must.

It took me 2.5 days to change mine last year. The hard part was I couldnt hold the alternator up long to replace it. had to call a buddy. then i forgot how it bolted on the top.
I made sure to test mine before buying. it's held up well to regular 5-6,000 rpm's lol

Wow that's quite a long time to put it in. First time took 6 hours since it was real hot, and I did not know what I was doing. Second time took 1 hour to get it out, pretty easy when you have done it at least once
