Seems like such a useless function IMO. Waste of time and money.

For an opposing point of view, I have that on my 5th gen (standard feature) and I like it. Not an earth shaking thing, but it is a convenience like having a remote for the door locks.

I thought about doing it. Seems easy enough to tap into the relays. I would only do it if I could adjust how dark it has to be to trigger lights, and be able to disable the feature. I hated it on a olds intrigue I had a few years back, they always turned on too soon and I couldn't override it to turn back off.

Nissan uses a photosensor mounted in the end of the defroster vent on the top of the dash to determine whether to turn the lights on or off.

To build this kind of a thing yourself would be a real challenge. While I like the feature, I don't think it justifies the effort involved. If someone does makes an after market kit to give you auto headlights, I still don't think it would be worth it.

My buddy's 99 i30 has it. Since it's OEM on a 4th gen you could feasibly find a junkyard 99 i30 and transfer the functionality to your car

I tend to agree with this. I have it on my 5th gen, and have had it in the past on the I30 and other cars but I've never used it.

Guess I prefer more control and do things myself. And with the auto switch the lights do come on too early or too late sometimes depending on the day and the weather.

Besides the photo sensor, you would need the headlight switch as it has an additional position for the auto feature. Because of that, I suspect that you might need a different wire harness and BCM.

Once again, I have to say not worth the effort.

You're preaching to the choir. I'm glad my car doesn't have it. I even hate my auto dimming mirror.

I installed an I30 autodimming mirror in my Max. When my friend drove it, he hated it because he said it turned everything green. Personally, I like the mirror.

The old school manual flip mode mirror had greater contrast for night driving, which I prefer.

^ Had it on my old 01 i30, does turn lights green, better than being blinded esp. with these new lights these days..

I still prefer it, and I've also always had tints.

Fixed. Don't tell me you're one of those people that say "tints"...

I'm telling ya, I'm one of "those" people that say TINTS. Not my fault, you try growing up in NYC, you'd be spewing off all kinds of strange words too.

I put an auto dimming compass/temp mirror in my max. They were on a lot of early 2000's GM cars, so the junkyard has a lot of them. I don't pick up any green in those. Temo and compass auto dim with the mirror. Great $10 upgrade plus a little wiring.
