What's a good % of tint?

My windows are currently totally transparent. I'm on and off between 30% and 20%.

It's an all black maxima that is fairly loud, so I figure I may not get nailed by the cops if it's got 30%, but what about 20?

My sister has 15 on her SUV and has never been pulled over, but her car is also silver. So how does black on black look. The guy at the shop says tint on a black cars actually makes it look more transparent and not more extreme.

30% front, 20% back?

My brother just got his windows tinted. Here in Indiana, 30% tints are the legal limit all around, so that's what he got.

Honestly, I can hardly see him when he's in the car through the driver's side window during the day, and zero at night. From a distance, the windows look pretty much black, but that may just be because of the color of his maxima, being that it's also black. Pretty much a solid incognito car.

I plan to get 30% tints on my gold max, and should be content. I had been considering 20%, but after seeing his tints, and considering how dark it would be at night time with the tints on a daily driver, 30% seemed perfect.

I'd say go with 30%.

18 - 20%

Family members have had it on various colors of cars without issue

I wouldn't go to far past the legal limit, not because its dangerous, but its such a PITA to remove if you have to. 20% is too dark for front windows IMO. I put 5% on the back windows of my van and it was fine.

WI the tine is %50 in front and 30% for the rest. 50% is a complete joke, you can't even tell there is tine on it. Most cars here have 30 on the front and get away with it.

Depends on a couple things, including your state laws and personal preference. I had 20% front and rear, shop accidentally put on 20% in the front when I requested 35%. Was OK during the day, however night driving with 20% just didn't feel too safe. I had it removed after a week, and I now have 35%F 20%R. Night visibility is fine for me.

My car is pearl white, and I got 5% all back 3 windows, 25% both front windows, and a 1% on top of my front windshield to block sunlight rather than using the mirror above the steering wheel. And everytime i turn off the car or away from the car I always put the sun visor on my front windshield,
with the tint I have you cannot see inside at all and is in the shade alot, my interior is black leather so that helps really well.

looks pretty badass with the black/white pearl mix. my black 7 spoke aftermarket rims pull it off quite well for the tint.

I say go with 5% 3 back and whatever u choose in the front. but be warned at night, it gets pretty dark especially if ya got black interior lolol but it doesn't bother me as I like it, my single din aftermarket radio makes it so colorful inside

OP not sure where you live but in the states, here in illinois, SUVs are allowed to have any percentage tint on all windows (except for windshield obviously) probably why she hasnt been pulled over in your area. Id say go with 25% all around not too dark, not too light.

I love it, you crazy man. I'm sure you can't see anything at night. lolz

^^ To OP, I think the interior color has more to do with the way tints will look more than exterior. Black exterior actually makes dark windows stand out less. But if you have black interior that will be what really makes em look darker...I say this from experience of having a black on black I30 with tints and now my sterling mist Maxima...

My I30 had darker tint but didn't look so dark from outside. My sterling mist maxi-pad has lighter tint (still not that light) but looks WAY darker. Both cars with black interior, just exterior color is different.

That said, legal in VA is 50% front (joke) and 30% rear. I did 15% all rears and 20% front with 5% sunroof.
With black interior and it looks dark in evening/night but daytime with sun out it looks fine. Never had an issue with the cops over the tint. And I'm bout to do front windshield 40% also to complete the look.

35% all around. Been hassled by the cops a couple of times in 9 years, not too bad.

It all depends on the state. When I lived in the Garden State, any tint on my driver and passenger side windows got me pulled over. I could keep it on my rear windows. So then I looked like car service.

Lol yeah back windows only is wack...car service style

I've heard jersey is strict with that for a long time now..my boys out there all complain bout that

VA seems to leave you alone as long as its not blacked out and you can still see something in daytime when sun is out

Tint, not tints...

Tint percentage is subjective.

Personally, I like 35% all around. Not going to get hassled by the cops, even look all around, and I can still see at night.

No its illegal george. But you can do it I believe in any state with special eye doctor approval if you have a medical need for the tint due to your eyes.

This. 35% all the way around.

Looks clean, good privacy, can still see outside at night b, & no cop harassment = best tint.

But honestly, u should go with whatever is legal in your state.

Not sure the legal limit for tint in my state, but i know one thing if you come close to the legal line ,you just open youself up to cops pulling you over and using tint as an excuse to be nosey...and there isnt much i hate more than police interaction....cuz of my younger and less wisdom filled yrs, if they pull me over im getting searched....i do everything in my power to avoid the cops at all costs....I even check my lights all the way around religously just to minimize the chances of having to deal with A$$holes...tint in my state just isnt worth it.......

Tint law enforcement seems to be pretty liberal in Ontario these days. There is no percentage requirement/threshold in the Highway Traffic Act. It's up to the police to decide if it's too dark. The requirement is that drivers have to be able to see outside the vehicle and the police have to be able to see you. Becomes pretty arbitrary at times. Unless you are being an idiot you seem to get left alone.

I've always preferred an even tint all the way around and I've had 20% on all my vehicles for years.

Is this your joy riding car or your everyday family car? If it's your family ride I would do 35% percent all way around. if it's your street ride I would do 20% all way around. I wouldn't worry about the cops if you're driving like a normal person. unless your doing hot boy stuff that's another scenario.

Darker!

What i did was put 20% in the front and throw 5%(limos) in the back. The 20% is dark and in certain states it is illegal, but i never got pulled over with 20% tints in the front the 3 years i had them.

i just redid mine, 50% front and 20% back and rear in California. during the day, the front looks very transparent and the back and rear is still visible. if i can redo it, i would go 35% front and 10% back and 5% rear.

i thought 20% would be very dark but you can still see through it during the day. at night its ok.

Get 20 all around. Youll like the consistency of all around. 5% tint has been ruined IMO. Looks cheap

My Max has 25% on sides and rear ONLY. With the Pearl White paint and black leather interior, she looks really good AND you can see out at night.
Never been pulled over either for just that (for speeding, yes ).

Beside the legal issue, it also depends on the interior color, light interior color, go with darker tint, dark interior color, you can go with slightly lighter tint.

My exterior color is black and my interior is gray cloth. I went with 20% tint on rear window and 45% tint on sides. It looks clean and not as illegal in my state.

Im in NJ with limo tint and I get pulled over all the dam time especially in Bergen County. Have to take back roads to avoid cops and Im sick of it. Luckily I have a gold card and they always let me go. Still really annoying getting stopped and questioned constantly. Gonna remove them and go with 35% all around. If you want piece of mind go with a light smoke tint, less chances of getting harassed but I guess that also depends on where you live.

Black car with limo tint and black leather interior, can't see **** at night either.
