Please help me with a brake decision
Tire shop just told me I'm almost metal to metal on the front right, and that my rotors need replacing (knew that). The right front has been heavily dusting for a couple of h=years and I suspect its time for a calliper rebuild or replace.
Rather than just replacing with stock 4th gen, I would like to go 5,5.5, or 6th gen. I also might have access to Q45 calipers. My research indicates that Q45 calipers in Maxima/Altima brackets should clear the same year Maxima/Altima rotors.
My hope is to source wrecking yard parts and keep costs down, and buy from Rockauto/eBay.
Thoughts?
If ANYONE has later model brakes installed, and a Q45 calliper lying around PLEASE do a mock up fit for me. Remeber, use the bracket you already have installed.

It's probably just frozen guide pins.
Disassemble the brakes, clean, grease and reassemble the hardware. Then exercise the caliper, push the piston in, then extend it by pumping the brake pedal. Repeat this a few times to make sure the caliper moves freely. Flush the brake fluid, do the whole system.
Put new blank rotors on and toss a set of Akebono pads on.
You'll have great brakes for under 150 bucks!

Don't want 4th gen brakes. I'm running 245/45zr17s,I can't even begin to lock them up and the 4th gen brakes are lost inside the wheels. Slowing down from "too fast" is scary slow and its time for bigger brakes.

Asand1's got bigger rims AND bigger tires. Greater rotational mass of the wheel/tire combo means the OEM brakes have to work harder to bring the car to a stop. The bigger footprint 245/45/17s is an advantage because once he gets bigger brakes, like the (dual piston??) Q45 brakes, he can apply more stopping power to the ground.

Thinking about a straight 6th gen swap, and calling it a day. If I ever get lucky enough to come across the right Q45 dual pots I will consider swapping the binders then. If anyone has 6th gen brackets, I would even consider just running my current calipers and rebuilding them.

Q45 people like to replace their brakes with the ones from a Z32.

The red calipers from rockauto for 2006 are $139.96 shipped to me, and eBay rotor/pad combo is $67.78 free shipping. That's only $207.74 for economy stuff that should out-brake stock 4th gen. You can spend more for "better" parts, but really all you need is stock replacement parts.

1998 Infiniti has 11.66" x 1.10" rotors (296mm x28mm) and yes the 2004-2008 Maxima rotors are larger 12.6" x 1.10" (319mm x 28mm) diameter, same thickness, and is a good setup but the larger diameter bolts will require the spindles to be drilled in order to accomodate the larger on he 4th Gen...I merely want to bolt it up for my 4th Gen and get that extra slowing down power of the dual piston caliper setup that will clear my 17" 5th Gen SE wheels...
