1999 Red Limited Edition Wont shift gears

I just picked up a used Maxima anniversary edition with 115k. The problem I have is that the car starts fine and kinda stumbles at idle, with the needle fluctuating so I will clean maf, iacv, and see what that does. I don't think it's the coil packs yet...also in reverse while sitting still the enging really starts to stumble and in drive while sitting still, the rpms dip really low but it stays on and keeps running..
The transmission most of the time won't shift and it kind of stumbles when it wants to shift. I don't know what it can be. (This is my first time with an automatic transmission guys!)

I can also say there is definitely an electrical issue going on as well, because when I have my left turn signal on with no headlights running, the entire cluster gauge starts blinking with the left turn signal. But with headlights on, the left turn signal stays on constantly. I don't know if this can corelate with the automatic transmission issue that I have?

I pulled four codes off the ecu, then reset the ecu as well. (Ecu still had the protective sealing on the screw so it never had been diagnosed in that manner before):
0902 dwnstrm o2 sensor
0201-Ignition signal fault
0304-we all know that one
0701-Multiple Cylinder misfire.

I searched a little bit https://maxima.org/forums/4th-genera...e-go-away.html
and people said the 0201 boils down to the crankshaft ref sensor, and I swapped that out. Made no difference but the cel hasn't come back on yet..
I checked the transmission fluid. It's red and seems to be at the full level.
Does the maxima automatic have belts that need tightening or the solenoids replaced?
Can I repair it with it still in the car or does it need to be take out?

Calling a 1999 car an anniversary edition is not correct. That option was only on the 2001 year model.

The code 0201 (OBD code P1320) - Code: P1320 | Description: Ignition Signal
This is most likely causing you the problems. The majority of the time it is your ignition coils, you need to replace ALL of them. This code also comes up about 6 months after you replace the ignition coils with the $100 e-bay special set of coils. The only coils that seem to work trouble free are the the coils sold by Nissan. You can also coils made made by Hitachi, available through rockauto.com at about 40% of the dealer price.

Code 0701 (OBD code P0300) - Code: P0300 | Description: Multiple/Random Misfire
This confirms what I just said about the 0201 code.

Code 0902 (OBD code P0141) - Code: P0141 | Description: O2 Sensor Fault
Nissan calls a downstream sensor, Sensor 2. A car built to California emissions code has 2 downstream sensors, while non-California cars have just one downstream sensor. This code won't cause you any driveability problems.

Code 0304 (OBD code P0325) - Code: P0325 | Description: Knock Sensor
Don't buy a knock sensor, at least yet. What you will is that this code will show up with just about every other code. We call it a ghost code because it usually isn't real. For now, fix the other problems, clear the codes and this probably won't come back. FYI - if you were to get this code all by itself, the check engine light does not come on.

I don't know if any of these problems have any bearing on the transmission shifting, but I suppose it's possible.

I understand! I was hoping to change the title to the 1999 limited edition red.
I know that the Hanshin coil packs on the 1999s were the worst ever coil packs.
Yea I'm just weary about the coils. I changed the crank ref sensor, changed spark plugs, reset the ecu and it seemed to drive better, then the ecu started flashing again. Also the TCS SLIP lights came on, so It could be an ABS issue from what I read. Post #28, It says to ground pin#9 on the obdII and self diagnose. https://maxima.org/forums/infiniti-i...s-all-lit.html
Is this just for the 00/01 or should this technique work for the 99 limited as well?

Grounding the pin will work, you most likely have an abs sensor malfunctioning.

The multiple misfire code is for the coils that are going bad and the fact it's the 99.5 the coils are a known common issue for these type of maxima's . The o2s is also an issue for the misfire in a particular part in the engine cylinder in that bank, it also leads to and injector issue as well. This would fix all of your problems, after that just check for the fuses and the relays. migeal
