i have a dilemma.....
alright, i need help making a decision. i have another car i'm buying next week, i just dumped over 3 g's into maxy for a trans, exhaust, you name it. the other car is an '07 hyundai sonata gls with 57,500 on it and i'm trying to get it for under 3 grand because it needs repairs ( body work and maintenance )
it needs:
1. trans fluid flush
2. front valve cover gasket
3. coolant exchange
4. possible battery in the near future
---------------------------------------------------
body work:
1. drivers side mirror needs replacing ( sister in law hit a pole and broke it off )2. front bumper cover, replace and repaint
3. rear bumper was scraped against side of garage, that can wait
------------------------------------------------------------------------
this car was my deceased brothers car and he had no will, she want's me to pay for it and i still have to do body work out of my pocket. how much do you think that should be for the front bumper and mirror? also, the maintenance has to be done and she want's to take it to the fukin dealer to get most of that done. "groan" i told her that the engine leak should be covered under warranty and to ask the dealer about that. i also said i'll do everything else when i get the money so i don't have to pay her more for the extra repairs. should i let go of maxy and sell, or keep maxy and sell this for a profit? it's a nice car, but no touch screen, leather, hid's, etc. plus it's an ugly light metallic blue which looks " eh" . plus side, 57,500 miles, fogs, 3.3 engine, that's about it. help me out on this, price on body work, under the hood stuff, i have a good idea on all of this, but want general opinion on which car to sell, keep. thanks

My front bumper cover got scraped and it cost $500 to remove, bondo and repaint. This was 2 years ago.
Since you've replaced the trans, you probably won't have any major maintenance on the Maxima. I think you should keep the Maxima and sell the Hyundai.

Thats low low miles man. I know someone who has that car and they arent sporty like the max. Not sure about sonata mods either.
But thats low miles man for a really good price. U would get 6 to 7 years out of the sonata easy.
OR, you can keep high mile maxy rolling for as long as you can. Especially, since you just fixed the tranny.
TBH, Im having the same dilemma as you Max so I cant give you a firm answer. Its a hard thing to part with MAXY.

I wouldn't sale the max for an hyundai, but I would look for an cheap parts and labor for the body work. If the valve cover and tranny flush can be done and let the work like body work be done be someone that you can trust.

valve cover should be under her warranty as she's the original owner, battery's fine for now, trans drain and fill, *81.00 plus tax, coolant drain and fill, * 125.00 plus tax. that's if she does it at the dealer and does'nt listen to me.

The Hyundai has leaking valve cover gasket and it's an 07 with 57k?
At that, it's not even a powerful sports car that was abused and driven hard...that's terrible
I don't think one needs to think too hard on this one, your Maxima is far superior in build quality and way better car despite being way older, that Hyundai is a POS IMO...

LOL
The 4th gen is much better quality than ALOT of newer cars.
They just dont build em like they used to..
That being sd...the newer Chevys are nice.

again fix and sell, and maybe make some money, (find a bargon body shop, and do anything mech at a reg shop) and keep the max you just invested money and emotion into.
im in same boat, and just am holding on to the depreciating max. but again any vehicle on the road is depreciating, so you mind as well enjoy what you drive.

the 4th gen maxima is one of the very few older best build quality cars ever made, dont get rid of it.. Would hate to see that for some car that you may not enjoy and have no same experience, any car you drive drops in price, people lose $15k on their new cars after they driven over 30k miles.. thats quick! but $3k on your repairs for you to last 3-5+ years? yeah thats cheap i say..

here's some awesome news!!!!!
sister in law called me about the car, she went and did all the repairs at the dealer, $592.00!!! would have been more but the engine leak was under warranty. also, she took the car to a body shop that she knows and the guy said he can fix the mirror w/o replacing it and can patch the front bumper hole as well by warming up the plastic and then blending in fresh paint. all for $300.00!!! guess what, she's doing that for me as well!! here's the killer part, she gave me a final price of $2,500.00 plus tax and tags!!!! i'm stoked, i guess she re-thought her initial vibe of me doing all the body work and she know's i'm slow with work and my brother would've gave me the car anyway. it'll probably be $3,100.00 all fixed up and painted, total!!! i so needed a break and i'm taking out a huge chunk out of my savings just to buy this car. i will post pics when i get it as it will be for sale, i have to give it the max ride 41 touch....

thanks brad, haven't seen you in awhile, how you been?? i miss him a lot, i still feel his presence sometimes. his wife is being super cool to hook me up with this car, i remember when he bought it. he peeled away from my parents house and my mom said," is he ever going to grow up "

If you go through winters anything like we do here in Canada park the max and use the hyundai in the winter and the max in the summer. You would probably get a descent insurance rate combining 2 vehicles and you could always suspend the insurance on one or the other through the seasons depending on which one your driving. Just a thought being the car belonged to your brother if it has some sentimental value.

yeah, wish i had the money to play around like that. but sadly, i could use the extra green and will eventually sell one or the other at some point. love the max, it's tempting to keep the sonata, looks kinda like a max in the front. hate the color though. looks like this
interior looks like this

depends on how i'll be driving it. but yeah, it should be better on gas next to maxy. o and the sonata is 245hp compared to maxy's 190hp, anxious to feel the extra kick!!!
