One knock sensor under the lower intake manifold. Is your car a California model?

Here's a video. I use a 1/4 in drive with a universal joint to remove the KS bolt.

Yes, only one knock sensor. The KS uses a piezoelectric crystal to sense when a knock occurs--this sends a voltage to the ECM to adjust the timing to prevent engine knock. The KS code shows up a lot when checking codes--some call it a ghost code, because when you fix the other problem, the KS code magically goes away. My 96 Quest was the same way, it would show a KS code if any other code showed up. I wish I had $5 for every unnecessary knock sensor replacement that was done on Nissans in this country.

When you say all maximas, you refer to 95-99 correct? Maximas from 2004 and up have 2 knock sensors.
