1995 Maxima Solenoid Repair Info

I need some information regarding the repair kit: 31940-80X25. What is included in this kit? I can not find any info on what it contains. My Maxima will not shift out of 2nd gear and will not go in 3rd or overdrive. The fluid has been changed and changed regularly and this is the first issues with it out of the 190K miles on it. On the interstate, I had a transmission cooler line burst and before I noticed it slipping and got it pulled over safely, the tranny had lost some 5 qts of fluid. I put new lines on it and when I filled it back to capacity, is when the tranny began acting up. I believe one of the solenoids are probably bad. Thank you very much for any information about this repair.

Besides solenoids? IIRC, it came with a tranny gasket, but I could be wrong. What else are you looking for?

1995 Maxima Solenoid Repair

I called the local dealer and they said that was just for one solenoid and said I would need a31940-80x05 for $404.84. I was wanting to make sure what the 312940-80X25 included before I ordered it. Thank you for any replies.

Before you buy the solenoid kit, go buy a can of seafoam trans tune and pour half can in, manually shift through all gears, run a tank of gas, then change transfluid (and filter if you have not done so recently), fill New transfluid and the rest half can of seafoam trans tune, manually shift through all gears on local road, run another tank of gas or so and see what happens. At least this fixed my tranny buckling and hard shifting issue.

Tell the parts guy you talked to that he should read service bulletin # NTB98-043 dated June 1, 1998.

This service bulletin is about the 31940-80X25 Solenoid Valve Assembly Repair Kit. In the bulletin it states that the 31940-80X25 Solenoid Valve Assembly Repair Kit consists of:
Solenoid Valve Assembly P/N 31940-80X05 (qty 1)
Oil Pan Bolt P/N 31377-80X09 (qty 21)
Drain Plug Washer P/N 11026-01M02 (qty 1)
Snap Ring P/N 31506-80X11 (qty 1)

The kit has a MSRP of approx $108 and is available on line for about $80.
If you were to buy the 31940-80X05 separate, it is that $404.80 price.

Don't let the stealership lure you into buying the 31940-80X05 solenoid kit for over $400. As Dennis said you'll get that same kit with the 31940-80X25 repair kit for much less money.

Besides that kit all you'll need is an AT pan gasket and several quarts of new dextron 3 ATF. I've used this low priced Felpro TOS18708 pan gasket several times and it's never leaked.

1995 Maxima Solenoid Repair

Thanks for all of the info guys. I did change the fluid and put in the seafoam transmission stuff with a new screen and ran through all of the gears with no results. I just ordered the repair kit and I will post results when I get them installed. I hope this helps and the tranny is not shot. Hopefully this will remedy the problem of not shifting to 3rd gear and being able to use my overdrive again. I love this lil car and never had any issues, cept for the usual coil packs but the tranny is or was a strong one. Hopefully she will be back.

***UPDATE - Changed Solenoids Still A Problem****

Well I received my solenoid repair kit. Awesome kit, $410 worth of parts for $90. The kit was super easy to install with some research and pics from this forum. I replaced the solenoids and my problem still exists. The tranny will shift at 4K rpms and the rpm's go down to about 2K rpm's. I do not know what gear its in. It almost feels like 3rd gear due to how low the rpm's go. I am running 3K rpm's at 60mph. From a dead stop the tranny will either shift when I let off of the pedal or when it reaches 4K rpm. If I put it in O.D. and let off of the pedal the tranny will go in to neutral type state and the rpm's go down to about 1k but when I accelerate the rpm's go up till it catches up with the tranny then it starts to pull again. If I try to hit passing gear the engine red lines and does not pull. Is it time for a used tranny???? With the tranny initially losing almost 1/2 of the fluid could one of the sensors get burned out? I checked the resistor on the strut tower, it was 12 ohms. My speedometer works fine. The tranny looks rather simple to remove, might be my best option. Any help would be greatly be appreciated.

Your drop resistor is within spec so now check if it's wired correctly to the line pressure solenoid and the TCM. You'll find all the wiring and troubleshooting info in the AT FSM.

You need to change your Tcm, I have one for $75 shipped, the STM has a fault inside it and it's sending incorrect signals which led you to swap the solenoid, I had done this myself and after everything was installed I got the same result result and I changed out the Tcm and that solved everything,
