I have a 95 maxima GLE with the stock bose speakers and original radio. The raido turns on and off, but i hear no sound from the speakers. Occasionally, if i hit a bump hard enough, the speakers will turn on and play sound, however, 95% of the time, the speakers will not work. I think there might be a loose wire somewhere; is there any way for me to checks this? Thanks.

Loose wire? You wish you could be that lucky. Sorry to rain on your parade.

You have 4 speakers and 4 sets of wires. The only one thing they have in common is the radio itself. It is a Bose and it is dying, showing one of the typical failures. You need to replace the head unit.

The head unit as in the actual radio part itself? How much would one cost?

The radio is the head unit. The radio has evolved into more than just a radio. It is also a tape player and a CD player and and a navigation unit and more, the term head unit is being used.

If you price a brand new Bose head unit, it is (are you sitting down?) $2300, discounted to $1900. You probably don't want to do that.

You can go out on e-bay and get used units that seem to be in the range of $100 to $200. But you are getting a 20 year old unit that is going to fail in the near future.

Start looking at aftermarket radios like sony, kenwood, jvc etc. You have choices from $100 and up to $1000 and maybe more. But you will need A trim adapter, an antenna adapter and a line level adapter. For $200 you can get a decent radio with all these adapters. Check out crutchfield.com.

If you want plug/play solution on the cheap, there is a 2006(?) pathfinder Bose 6-disc in-dash model that works directly - just need to drill new holes in mounting brackets and maybe tap a wire. Those can be found cheapish on ebay/forums.
