99 maxima ignition coils and plugs

a friend of mine got a 99 maxima beater it's his sons first car. misfires in all cylinders and needs new crankshaft pulley. ordered pulley and have a question about coils. I found these on ebay for cheap anyone have experience with these guys?

he only paid 200 bucks for it, so dont want to put to much into it, he just needs it to get to and from school and work, about 40 miles round trip daily.

figure just put some ngk v-power coppers in it,unless anyone has better suggestions

I would change plugs first...platinum plugs of course...and work from there...if it comes to replacing coils I would hit a junk yard and buy them there...just my 2 cents...especially if ur on a budget

I run NGK copper v-powers in both of my VQ30DE cars. More spark for the buck -- especially with older coils.

I would pick up some used OEM coils from a junk yard over a low cost after market brand.

I would only replace the failing coil. While I've never really needed them, I keep a couple of spares I've picked from junk yards.

I would prepare to refurbish the injectors at some point. If/when the intake plenum is off for a valve cover gasket change, it is a good time to send the injectors out for service. A leaky injector o-ring or cracked broken pintle cap will cause uncontrollable flooding and potentially destroy the catalytics converters and more.

4th gens are notoriously finicky about coil packs. I haven't had the problem, but lots of people report that aftermarket coils trigger CELs. You're better off with OEM from the junk yard.

OEM Is the way, Aftermarket has its issues. wish it wasn't like this, but aftermarket coils WILL work, but the car will probably run a little weird than normal...if ur son is okay with that and will just get him to point A or B, Then aftermarket may be the option if u cannot find any 4th gens in the junkyard..

Try to find Mitsubishi ignition coils that were made for 4th gen maxima's. They are the best coils made and have never had any issues and they rarely fail. I have those on my 97 maxima and they are way better than the hanshin coils that come with pretty much all 4th gens. The Mitsubishi ones are very rare and now really hard to find. Nissan started to replace the coils on the 1999 Nissan Maxima with the Mitsubishi ignition coils because the hanshin brand started fail before the car even had 30,000 or more miles on them. Plus these coils give a smooth and quite idle. I found mine on eBay for 100.00 for all 6 of them and came of Nisan maxima 1999 that had only 80,000 miles. But the coils probably only had less miles on them because the 4th gens mostly came with hanshin coil packs and I bet the dealer had replaced those with these.
