yea nobody is gonna do that for you because there is no kit available to buy for the maxima. They don't know where to start. You gotta do it yourself. We are talking about a tune not installing a turbo. Those are total different things.

time for my weekly update.

No pics this time, unless for whatever reason you want to see a mangled 3.0 with no valve covers, uim, or timing chain.

I took the uim, and valve covers off because we are going to powdercoat them a 24k gold. In contrast the tb, timing chain cover, radiator and piping for my turbo will be done in a wet black.

here is a mock up of what the color scheme will be.

I am also replacing the crappy blue couplings with black ones. The carbon fiber cover is easy to get and actually kinda inexpensive for what it is. Iconic has them and I will be snagging one of them

This week also is the week for figuring out what to do about my makeshift, ghetto brackets.

dude... wait... wha???

right? That is not gonna fly. I will end up measuring the holes and machining out a new bracket out of something... less janky. Any input on that is welcome, and really needed. I am an ok wrencher, but fabrication of custom brackets for a turbo... a wee bit beyond ol' litch here.

Engine should be coming out this week, once all my powdercoating shenanigans are complete. Will post pics of the finished engine before it goes in.

I also have some candy powdercoat for the chrome bits of the car. So my rims will change to a candy gold to complete the whole gold on green theme of the car.

After that, its installing all new gauges, a wideband, and the lowering springs I have.

That should be all done before the new year? Hopefully.

That would make this from purchase, 24 Sept, to running and solid, 3 months?

It feels like it is taking forever, but I guess in retrospect it really is being done very quickly especially for this quality of rebuild.

Cam the motor, b1tch. Add valve springs, add an rev-up oil pump, and a flux muster. Ho.

why add more whp? It is irrelevant at the moment. The transmission cannot handle that much power, and I don't feel like dropping 2k to get surrats 6 spd shenanigans. I am happy with the turbo 3.0... no cams.

Valve springs doe, the engine only has 64k miles on it... are the stock ones weak? have a history of breaking under strain? or are you just being crusher.

Here are pics of today.

Did another cut of the paint with cutting compound. Got alot more of the haze and imperfections out of the paint... I think I have it as good as it is gonna get until I get some new clear coat and touch up paint.

I also detailed some more of the engine bay. I swapped all the fender bolts with new hardware, as well as any other 10mm bolt washer combo I could find in the engine bay... ended up being about 20. It's the little things man.

That will be cool when you're finished. I've seen gold powder coat on some VH45DE valve covers. Actually the 45s came new with a light gold powder coat.

Ok powdercoat complete.

Well, big pieces anyway. I have the throttle body, the lower motor mount, and 2 pieces that hold the wiring harness together to do in wet black, but the big stuff, is done.

This I decided needed to just be polished. It took FOREVER. Soooo oxidized.
all in all though I will say that the finished product is very pleasing

sorry about the crappy quality of the pictures, dunno why they came out like that...

Now that those pieces are finished, I am caving, thanks for the advice guys, and just doing the timing chain since that cover has to come off anyway for the water pump, and the rear tensioner. That will give me an engine with 65k miles on it, new pump, tensioner, chain, coil packs, spark plugs, gaskets, and oil...

daddy likey.

Thanks man! That's a big compliment coming from og status. I am now just waiting on the timing chain set, then it is tune up, water pump, gaskets, timing chain, new fluids, and boop into the engine bay.

alright ya'll, this weekend the engine came out of my car. Gonna post some pics on monday when I go in to clean the engine bay and wrap my headers.

Up to this point I have done the following to the car:

65k mile engine:
New Coilpacks
New gaskets from the head up
New timing chain
New water pump
UIM off to machine shop for a polish
Powdercoat UIM, front & rear valve covers, TB, and other misc items on the engine.

New steering wheel
New shift ****
New shift boot
New fender bolts
misc engine dress up
New battery
Paint cut/restoration

Now that I am looking at the list, it doesn't seem like alot, but I guess I spend a bunch of time cleaning everything.

Still to be done.

AEM wideband
turbo timer
Ebach lowering springs.
DC Stealth series muffler.

custom battery enclosure for trunk

Still to come but don't have parts yet:
Holset hy 42 trim turbo
blitz bov
Nistune & tune (by moncef)
mishimoto intercooler.
6th gen brake swap (will powdercoat calipers to match uim...like a boss)

^in case you were wondering, this is income tax ballin... done right ^

Car should be running by monday/tuesday next week and barring any unforseen circumstances I will be posting videos and pictures like a 13 year old girl.

out.

Sounds good! I'm running Nistune on my super charged 97 as well. But I'm on 3.5 engine fully built.

Was going to ask you who's tunning it. Moncef knows his stuff you'll be in good hands.

moar progress done.

first and foremost... the engine bay shot

I spent prolly 3 hours cleaning all the gunk out of the bay. 200k miles will build up alot of crap, but it looks much better now.

This is a pic of my turbo mount. It needs some help. Gonna clean up some of the cutting on it, powder coat it gold, and make it happy again. With everything else that is going on in the engine bay, no reason to cut corners now.

Name: 20160118_154846_zpslrt3dmof.jpg
Views: 79241
Size: 201.5 KB

Finally, the timing chain cover is off, the cause of my cars initial problem was in the bottom of the chain, somehow the chain skipped off the track down there, and managed to break the cover and the oil pan where they bolt together... or something... I am not sure how it happened, but that is the most traumatic damage that we have found thus far.

Here is what is going on with the cover, as well as the motor mounts and some hardware that sits on top of the engine, the little bracket that holds the throttle cable, and another random bracket...

all powdercoated wet black.

Soon amigo. Engine all done up proper first, then worry about the suspension. ALSO... I just scored a donor car with all of the goodies I want. Full suspension, RAXLES, tsw 17's, a 350z brake swap, clean clean CLEAN grey/black interior... so I will be swapping my mediocre tan interior, my brakes, suspension, and wheels with the ones off the donor, and then I will sell the donor. It's still gonna be an okish ride... auto trans, 18 inch rims, upgraded brakes... sell it for a little money, take that and put it towards a holset hy42 and a blitz bov...

the game is real.

Thanks man, its more time than money, I promise. I do alot of the prep, cleaning, any of the wrenching I can, all the shop is doing is the stuff I can't do. Lets be real here, I have been on the forums a while... not gonna do a timing chain job on the car.

It's really really cheap for what I am getting. In other car cultures, take 240sx, or foxbody mustang. Just to get a decent engine, you are looking at 2k. I am into the entire car, including the PRICE of the the car initially, just over 3500, that includes a donor car, all the goodies... add in a decent turbo and bov, and you're looking at 4000. Add nistune and a decent tune, 4500. Add in a 6spd swap from surratt.... another 1000. so that is 5500, for a 60k mile engine completely rebuilt, a pro level 6 spd transmission, turbo, 4 door sports car... pretty cheap man. Doing something comparable to an sr20det would be 3x this... easily.

I don't think our cars need a turbo, they don't handle very well?

I mean I love the 4th gen, but it drives like it's 1994. That was 22 years ago.

I'm gonna say the former...

Handling will never be like a miata or mini cooper... No argument there. Not looking to auto x the car.

And of course the car doesn't NEED A TURBO but if all people did was what the car needed... There would be endless threads on oil changes, ac work, wheel berring stuff and when someone wants to kill the game they would do a timing chain job... Lol

i never did the timing chain job on my 95 and somehow she still runs like a top. rattles at start-up but quiets down after a little bit, kinda blown away by how reliable this car has been. she has cost me quite a bit in repairs over the years but i've saved a fortune on used parts from here and rock-auto and other sites as well. if i had a little garage and some more mula i'd rip apart maxy and rebuild properly like that. still, you need bm1 blue to make an awesome max imo, but green is ok, i guess.
