Water pump question, does it make a weird sound
I have a question, when the water pump is starting to leak does it make a weird groaning or bearing noise? And than just goes away? Is this normal

The noise could be the water pump, which you need to replace...
Like right now.
The noise can be confirmed by removing the serpentine belt. The remaining noise is the power steering. Any rumbles from the water pump would be it's bearings failing.
Replacing the pump is a royal pita. Been there, done that recently.
If you have a free weekend, you can do this, if you are patient, take breaks when frustrated. Being left handed is a plus.
If you have money for a mechanic, consider hiring one.

Normally you never hear the pump. The chain driven side is smothered in motor oil and the other side is pushing anti-freeze. The only symptom you usually notice when your pump is about to die is the leak. So fix it, as turbobink suggested.

I did this just recently on my 1996 Maxima.
There are two decisions to make right now. Price what the repair shops charge.,
method A. Write a big check, then relax.
Method B. Do it yourself.
I installed a high quality water pump. Don't cheap out here. You Never want to do this again.
Should you do it yourself, consider that you will be working with your left hand.
A left handed mechanic friend would be awesome. He would love how simple I think this might be.
Now for the us right handed folks,.....
As the others have said, the job itself is kind of difficult, but not too bad.
It's the sheer awkwardness of the task which can drive a person insane.
The job can only be tolerated for so long before you need to walk away for more than a little while.
But it can be done.
Your call.
