Pesky codes

Hello,
I have a 1999 SE. It has sat for about a year and a half. I have been trying to get it legal so I can drive it. The car runs great, but I keep getting codes for knock sensor, o2 sensor and EGR.

I have cleaned the egr, and replaced the knock and 02 sensors. The codes will not go away.

Any suggestions?

Did you manually reset the codes to see if they will stay off, or are you waiting for the number of drive cycles to see if the light will go off ? I would recommend the manual reset either by disconnecting the battery or thru the ECU.

Manual reset

Yes,

I disconnected the battery for half an hour.

I pulled the codes after 10 miles and they were already back. Drove another hundred. .. still there

Could a bad ECU throw false codes?

No. My experience with a bad ECU the car will not start period.

After you have reset codes, note the KS code is what we call a "ghost code" that is usually triggered by another code.

Can you tell us the specific EGR code that you are receiving?

I have a 99 model and had some amount of trouble with a failing EGR. If you have removed the EGR to clean it, I'm sure this picture will look familiar.

Codes are
P0400 EGR System Function
P0325 Knock Sensor (KS) Circuit
P0155 Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Heater (Left Bank)
P0154 Front Heated Oxygen Sensor - High Voltage (Left Bank)
P0325 Knock Sensor (KS) Circuit

Your "Ghost Code" may explain why the Knock Sensor pings twice.

Yeah... very familiar. The EGR was completely clogged... so cleaning it was not a waste of time, but now reading the fault it may be the valve itself.

I really dont want to have to get back to that thing again.

The part has me scratching my head is the other codes.

When my EGR started giving trouble, I only had a single code that clearly pointed to the EGR. Also, the car acted like it had a vacuum leak that I could not find.

What type of O2 sensors are you using?

Bosch sensors.

My car ran fine before I cleaned the EGR. It doesn't smell like it has a fuel air mixture issue. It idles smooth, no indication of anything wrong except the codes.
