The End has come for My beloved Max

Well after replacing the alternator, wheels for 17" 2004 maxima wheels, changed all the pads, rotors, and just about to do the valve cover seals my maxima at 298,603 decided she has had enough.

I was headed to work and after coming off the highway sitting at a light the oil light was flickering. I pulled into a gas station and the oil was low and I added some. Unfortunately the damage was done. When i restarted it knocked badly for a second and then smoothed out, but I could still hear a slight knocking. Surprisingly the faithful Max still managed to bring me the 45 mile journey home. Bummed!

Now to find a replacement? I am looking into the Mazda 3 hatchback.

Drop a 3.5 or another 3.0 in there & keep her moving! A lot of guys are even doing VQ35HR swaps. But that's just a suggestion...

I don't know what it is about these cars but I love them, bought mine at an auction, to flip for 500 bucks and here I am almost 2 yrs later. Came here to fix a problem, to sell it, and I ended up joining a month later. I know the day is coming when a decision like yours is going to come up for me. I might go 5th gen, but who knows. Of course I hope you save it, but if not, well it is what it is. Good luck. R.I.P!

I think it was your responsibility to check the oil every so then if it was leaking especially if you were about to do your valve covers so.. or haven't checked the oil cause this unfortunately happens and its no fun. but reaching 300k miles, i Believe it did its job. you could however swap the engine if you like.

I remember when I had the opportunity to get rid of the car. The engine blew out due to me not checking the oil. Within two months of owning the car too. I went ahead & got a new engine dropped in it & fixed everything that was wrong. It put such a large hole in my pockets, that it still effects my funds today but there's just something about this car... Idk what it is but almost 300k? It did it's job but I still say long live the 4th gen!

Too bad about the Maxima.

Regarding the Mazda 3...If you want people to sit in the back seat, don't get a Mazda 3 HB. We have a 2010 and it's tiny, can't even put a car seat back there and sit in front of it (knees on the dash!). The seats can be uncomfortable on long trips.

If you don't care about that, it's a decent car.

Oh yeah, the backseats ARE horrible in the Mazda 3 hatchback. My buddy has a 2012 & being 6'3, it doesn't work out well... Just remember to automatically give shotgun to your tall friends lol..
