Seat belt problem

It will not retract at all on my 99 front belt.. I was reading that it may under warranty to be fixed by the dealer? From 1984 to 2000 it warranty for life and 2001 and up 10 years .. Any info would be great..

I'm not sure about the warranty thing and, although I'm experiencing pretty much the same thing, to me the warranty really does matter since there is absolutely no way I'm going to let a dealer service "tech" tear into my 17 year old plastic trim pieces.

The likelihood that your belt retract mechanism is simply gunked up with a decade and half's worth of crap, old lubricant, hair and skin flakes is pretty high.

Before I got all giddy about a warranty repair, I'd honesty and carefully gain access to the mechanism, remove it and give it a good cleaning and re-lubrication.

The warranty is lifetime on the 99.

If you are going to try to remove it yourself, be careful. Starting in 1998, the seatbelts used an explosive charge to lock the belt from moving in a crash. It is not an inertia lock any more. Use all the cautions that apply to the air bags.
