looking at a 97/98 maxima, but.....

he's asking wayy too much, 5,698.00 for a 92,000 mile deep green maxima. i saw it at the dealership in the back lot with a flat tire and the interior was a bit messed up. he fixed the rear leather seat and took the fake wood grain off the center console. it stinks like an old car and he hasn't detailed it. mis-matched headlights and there's a few scratches and etc. on it. offered up 4,000.00 for it and a stern no to that. o, and the odo isn't digital, it's analog. i think the miles were turned back. here's the car....

I clicked on the link and looked at the car.

Digital odometers didn't start until 1998. Based on the VIN given, it is a 1997.
The web page calls the car a GLE and an Altima. I think it is a SE. If you look at the metal plate on the firewall (under the hood, passenger side) there is an ID number under the VIN. The 6th character from the left is the model.
Code:
ID# - B LH U L E A A32 E V A

The price he wants for the car is crazy. $6000 is my 2000 Max. I went to Kelly Blue Book (kbb.com) and priced the car. Buying from a dealer, they say the top price should be $3430, but more like $3267.

About the only way to tell if the odometer has been turned back is to pull a CarFax. That will have mileage numbers with the license renewals. That will cost you $40, though.

While it looks good in photos, the guy wants way too much money. I wouldn't do it.

He must have a fascination with the car. I just checked out a really nice 08 sentra with little over 100k that wanted 4000 for it. I wouldn't even offer him 4000 for that max, he obviously has an attachment to the car.

edit: oh wait that's a dealer he's just trying to profit off of it. I would stick with your offer of 4000 (even though thats too much) if you really want it, and eventually he'll call back after nobody (hopefully not that stupid) buys it.

my issue with this guy is that he hasn't detailed it and it's still missing the overflow tank cap too. if he's not paying attention to the small stuff, then he's probably not paying attention to the big stuff. it runs ok, engine bay is dirty too, o, and he said" my wife and i had an older maxima and their great cars "

I'm glad he told you that. Those of us on the org here are not aware of that.

That's a nice looking 97 Maxima SE, not $4000 nice, though.
GLEs don't have SE rims, SE body colored door handles, white face gages, or the LED tail.

I think it's been in an accident look at the driver fender/hood it's sticking out a little. And also the drivers mirror is different than the passenger. Can't tell if it's been repainted completely, the pinstripes look brand new too. But don't let that push you away from buying the car.. Who knows if it was just a minor
Accident, severe accidents are the ones to question about...accidents happen, but doesn't mean the car is completely trashed after that.

Maybe that's why he's asking so much. Also the mismatched headlights can be fixed..but again those are small details, he's got a clean car but it's missing the little details to make it worth it. I would say $3500-4000 would be fair if he fixed the small stuff.

i agree, but as i stated this was sitting in the back of another dealer's lot and went to auction. i took the overflow tank cap off to check the fluid and there was none there. i never put it back, and when i saw the same car on this guys lot w/o the cap, i know he only paid like 2 -2,500.00 if that for it. he didn't even change the oil, just fixed the seat and washed it, i talked to him about it and he had nothing to say and had another caller ona another line when i tried getting details about it from him.

Lol if they have signs of not discussing details of the car, sitting in the back of the lot with a flat tire, no overflow tank.. Fender not straight, mis-matched headlights.. They probably just want to sell it for profit, but just "pretty" and clean enough for people to buy it for it's price. But again it's in a dealers lot.. That's their purpose, just to buy and sell for profit.

This is a probably a car that needs more detail before someone can buy.. No fluid in anything means a bad thing.

buy this beautiful red 99 max that is for sale, but i believe it has the ricer tail-lights, but that can be changed. and the passenger headlight seems to be tucked in a little.. dunno what happened there. but overall clean! this one has potential to be fixed, just change tail-lights and fix the headlight issue/clean them, and maintain it.. but its got high miles. this car has potential in some way. I would buy a red max If I could find one in my state, its so hard to find them in good condition, and also the miles always seem to be high on the red maxs.. dont know why.
