Check engine light came on

I took my 95 Maxima to Autozone to have them put their code reader on my car and was told they were unable to. THey also told me that it does not start with Maxima until 96 when they can put code readers on the car. My question is "Now what do I do?" IF they are unable to put a code reader on my car how do I find out what the check engine light is telling me?

Would an OBD1 reader work? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

i would of just gone to another autozone and say your car is a 96, a 95 can do OBD2 I believe. when you said your car was a 95 on the back of their mind they say "we are unable to use code reader on cars before 96"

Could someone tell me where the connector for the reader is on my car? The reader the autozone guy brought out had a connector on it that would not fit my car. The only connector on my car that I could find is under the fuse box under the steering wheel.

buy your own scanner and do it yourself, this is the one i have, clears codes, works great https://www.amazon.com/Oxgord-Scanne...=obd+2+scanner you have to have the max running in order for it to work.

Just check the codes yourself: http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html

Then use this to decode: http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecudecoder.html

Further info on codes here:
