How much does it cost to paint an entire car a different color?

Just a curiosity question, but what if after a couple of years I decided to paint my car black instead of white. Let's assume that no body work is needed. Just to respray with the same quality paint and clearcoat.

If you're going to do it the right way, painting the engine compartment too, going from white to black will cost you some big bucks !

Anywhere from a 1k for a cheapo job...to 6K for what I just paid for my other ride....all depends on the quality, paint and who's doing it. I would guess for something a little better than the current job 2-3K in most locations.

I basically meant that I wouldn't want a $300 Maaco job with no clearcoat.

John- This was a total curiosity question..... I've got a lot more things to waste money on than paint.

For just the outside and no interior like door sills and under the hood you are looking at about $2000 to $2500 for a decent shop. With door sills, underside of trunk lid, trunk, and under hood you are probably talking about $4000.

I just had my hood, front fenders, trunk lid, and spoiler painted for $950 cash. The credit price was $1200. But they did a damn good job and use the high quality stuff.

I'd have to agree thats it's going to cost alot of $$$ to get a *quality* job done right...

For proper paint cureage, you'd best be sanding down original pant to bare metal, undercoating the metal, primering it and then shooting it with like 1-2 coats for a THOROUGH job...

quite costly and time consuming. Plus you'll want your door jambs and engine bay painted too which involves removal of engine.

you're prob looking at like $4k-$10k for a quality job

I was getting some crazy quotes like $6000 for a new color. I was gonna go red. But now I've decided to just paint the hood and bumpers to include body kit, which will run about $1000 and get TURBO!
