Cleaned my throttle body today..WOW !!
Sup all,
Today on my day off, I decided to work on my car. So off to pep boys i went. I decided to do a oil change, change my air filter and clean my throttle body. Didnt really think it would make such a difference, but hell yah what a difference. Has everybody that cleaned theirs experienced the same dramatic difference??? There was alot of s***t that did come out though. Now the only thing i need to fix is the damn ignition coils..Thanks again Dave B.. great to deal with..

what is the difference between these two chemicals?

I used CRC air intake cleaner.. you can pick it up at any pepboys.. I only have 33,000 miles on my car and didnt think it would make such a difference. but a whole lot of black crap came drizzling out of the manifold

I've been told thats its okay to spray throttle body cleaner directly into the TB while the engine is running. Someone else gently revs the engine as short sprays are applied. Since the maf is disconnected the engine runs atrociously. That might not be so bad if it weren't for the accompanying white smoke pouring from the exhaust. I picture all kinds of dissolved filth grinding and scoring its way through the combustion chamber. To be honest, I've tried this once about 20K miles ago and have never noticed any adverse effects.
Recently I was talking cars with a couple of guys who said this was a bad idea and I should never try it again for obvious reasons. I'm going to clean my throttle body again soon and want to see if there is any consensus here as to whether or not this is bad practice. If the method truely is harmless then the benefit in terms of cleaning the entire intake tract all the way to the valve inlets should make it a worthwhile effort. A recent description by klee of black stuff "drizzling" out of the manifold demonstrates how massive and potentially restrictive these deposits must become over time. Its just a question of how abrasive is the dissolved/suspended material and if its passing in such ammounts will cause any significant wear.

I just cleaned mine over the weekend....used K&N air filter cleaner and a tooth brush.....There was a ring of crud baked in around the vavle.....Noticed a good difference in acceleration/throtle response
Also changed my oil, added a can of BG44K and changed my in cabin microfilter...productive weekend-Max is drivin' like new
