I know that this was talked about, but it's way burried in some thread somewhere.

The question was: do 2000 SE manuals have LSDs.

The test to perform was: manually rotate one drive wheel and if the other turns the same way it's LSD (good 'ol Posi-traction) and if they counter rotate it's not.

I had my car up on the lift and did the test and mine turned the same way. So I guess that 2000 SEs have the LSD.

WooHoo!

I believe someone here said that Canadian maxes (at least the SE) come with LSD and US don't (other than the AE).

Wrong that is not a proper test.

The way to find out like we have said before, get to a empty parking lot, turn the wheel all the way to the right, and just take off hard, if that inner right wheels spins and the left one doesn't you do not have LSD. No MAXIMA 4th gen in the U.S. has LSD until the AE.

How's that the wrong way to test? So you're saying a car with or without LSD will spin in the same direction?

As long as the car is in gear the spin test should work for FWD cars (RWD are a different story).

I woulda tried this except when my car is jacked up I had it in park... makes it hard to turn the wheels. Can we just email or call Nissan and settle this once and for all?

Nissan service will look at the sales brochure and tell you what is in there.

I prefer getting the truth.

I know it works properly, you know it works properly, but how does Russ know it doesn't work properly.

Care to explain, Russ?

When you have owned 2 LSD cars you will know the difference in the way they act and you really tell in autox.

Why isn't the tire trick the proper way to test?

Before you get the wrong idea, I'm not bashing you nor do I have anything against you, Russ. I want to know why you think spinning the tires is not the proper way to test.

Would this be a plain jane LSD or a VLSD and what is the difference between the two?

Also, how can I eliminate wheel hop during take-offs, without reducing the power that I am applying to the wheels? I am sure stiffer springs/shocks would do it, but anything else I can do?

I thought mine might have an LSD at first so I got the service manual. The LSD transmission number has a V next to last, the non-LSD has a different letter(I forget which one). US cars don't get one except the AE.

You mean a V in the VIN?

Could you scan the page in the service manual that tells us how to read VIN numbers.

TIA

For manuals, RS5F50V- LSD, RS5F50A- NON LSD. Found this on a link from 4 months ago, from a diagram tuner supplied to the thread.
