wierd rev question..

Ok I run 18x8 Moda R6 tires. I was noticing that when I pull into parking spots I hear a wierd creak...so in an effort to further investigate the "creak" I sat in a parking spot and moved the steering wheel back and forth. To my surprise, the engined revved each time I moved the wheel back and forth! It didn't rev extremely high, but the rev is noticeable audibly and visually as I could see the needle on the tach rise and fall. Is this normal? If anyone else has come accross this problem let me know.

Thanks

that's called the engine responding to the strain on the power steering pump as you turn the wheel.

There is a pressure switch on one of the Power steering lines that has a couple of vacuum hoses attached that affect idle. I don't remember what Nissan calls it but I remember reading references to it when I was reading the manuals when my IACV failed. Maybe that that switch has failed. It is located right rear of engine compartment.

Its a high pressure line Power Steering switch telling the ECU that you are turning the wheels and it bumps the Idle Air Control Valve- IACV, duty cycle and thus increases idle speed to prevent engine from possibly stalling. PS pump takes some power to run, and the engine isn't making a whole lotta power at idle eighter.

wow thanks guys, at least I know it's normal. One more question, I got the rims last summer, and they were fine, this spring when I put them on, the faster I go, the more the car shakes, do I need to have the rims re-balanced or could this be another problem. I simply had my winter tires/rims (oem) taken off and my Moda rim/wheel combination put on. Thanks again.

sounds like the rim/tire is out of balance. Take them to a shop that knows what it's doing.....

yeah i guess that the tires must have worn down over the summer...........I didn't realize I did that much driving. I'll take it back to a shop and have them re-balance them

Ihad the same problem with my car. I have a set of Motegi MR7's. After having the tires re-balanced, I still had vibration at certian speeds. I invested in a set of hub rings that help center the mags. That did the trick for me.

hub rings are almost a must on aftermarket rims, so they can align better.
