01 maxima ECM replace problems

I am a Honda tech so I do know a little about such things, but Nissans are a mystery to me. I hate to be one that joins a forum for just 1 question but I can't find an answer to my problem. My GF has an 01 maxima, the IACV caused the ECM to fry so we bought parts off ebay and I installed them (used ECM and new IACV). Had it towed to the dealer to have the key programmed and it did start and run. Problem is the idle is too high and surges up and down , have tried the relearn procedure but no joy. Way more complicated than a Honda so maybe I didn't do it right. Also it will only run to about 2800 Rpm and acts like it hits the rev limiter. Found an old thread with the same question but it was never answered.

Her Max is in fail safe mode. Somethings wrong with the TPS. Have it adjusted at the dealer.

Thanks, how do I do it myself? The Nissan dealer techs are morons.

This verification code thing you have to go through every time you post here is a PITA.

did you match the numbers off your old ecu with the replacement ecu?

loosen the two bolts holding the TPS. Adjust until it fixes the surge.

Get a handheld scanner and adjust the TPS til it reads 0.0%. That how mine reads after an idle reset at the dealer. Now regarding the fail safe mode, it should show an error code.

While the engine is idling at the 2800 rpm your describing disconnect the tps sensor top plug (brown one) see if the idle lowers to normal.

No the numbers were not the same but I see a lot of Honda parts with different numbers that are the same thing so I paid no attention to it. The seller (apparently an auto salvage) actually states it is for both 2000 & 2001. That would be a b---h if we had to get another one and have it programmed. At least it does run and can be driven to the dealer. There are no codes in it BTW.
a33nismo,The engine does not idle at 2800 (please read first post), it will only accelerate to 2800.

Hope all goes well. I'm in the same exact boat, and currently saving up to have my ECM/IACV harness replaced, junkyard ECM calibrated, TPS fixed, etc.

Could someone explain this fail safe mode thing with the TPS? I haven't heard too much about it.
