Is this the only thing not working? If there're more, like trunk room lamp not working as well read Maxim24 message in the thread:

go here and download the FSM for your car:
http://boredmder.com/FSM/Nissan/Maxima/
the smart entrance control is in the EL section, starting on page 310.

Can you post if your trunk light works or not? The advantage of this test is it doesn't have any additional logic attached as it is powered directly from battery saver output.

If the bulb is OK check page EL-89 of your FSM. You should see that the same wire from pin 17 of the SECU powers up ignition hole light, visor mirror lights, spot lights (map lights), trunk room light and through some additional circuit - inerior light. If all of the above don't work or very dim then your SECU is fried and needs replacement. You don't have to use dealer's equipment to program your remote into replacement SECU, there's a simple procedure here on the site how to DIY. You don't even have to do it if you don't have remotes, it will be just simple replacement.
I'm afraid power locks is a separate story and most likely not working because SECU is getting 'door open' signal from one of the door switches. I wouldn't worry about that at the moment: if you're to replace SECU then power locks might start working on their own after replacement as the very same unit is involved.

Neither, I'm afraid - check page EL-342 of your FSM it shows units locations. In any case it should have 2 connectors: 18 and 24 pin (page EL 90 connectors M40 and M41).

Looks like it but I saw it last time few years ago. I also don't remember where exactly it is located. Looking at FSM it seems somewhere on the central console but I can't recall on which side. Find yourself and post back to enlighten future readers .

Hey, i know no one has posted to this thread for a few years. I just bought a 2k Maxima with 44k miles a few months back. I just got the same exact problem, (power locks, rear defroster, interior lights don't work). I checked all my fuses (left of steering wheel and under the hood), only found 1 blown 5A fuse, which I replaced. Still had the problem. Went to a junkyard and grabbed a SECU, plugged it in and still had the problem. Did anyone ever find another solution besides the replacing the SECU? I'm a college student and really don't want to pay a Nissan dealer or an autoshop to diagnose and fix.
Thanks!
Thanks!

So I had these same issues but had trouble finding a SECU at a local junkyard. I'm glad I didn't because...
THERE MIGHT BE AN EASIER WAY!!
****Try disconnecting the two plugs going into the SECU, waiting 5 seconds and then reconnecting them. After about a year of no interior lights, power door locks, and rear defrost.... they all work!! The first time I plugged them back in the horn started honking like the car alarm going off and again when I opened the trunk. So the second time I made sure the keys were in the ignition and turned to accessory, unplugged the plugs and reconnected them starting with the white plug first. After this I had no more alarms. Also, FYI I took off the kick panel under the steering wheel by removing two screws to make unplugging the unit easier.
This is the box that I assumed to be the SECU: Click the image to open in full size.
I found this thread: http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/maxim...defroster.html and thankfully tried unplugging it before buying a brand new unit from a dealer. Finally no more using a flashlight inside my car!

If this was that easy you could just unplug the battery and press the brakes to get rid of residual charge without removing anything. BTW, unplugging something with power ON is not a good idea in general- you can burn it if connector's pins get disconnected/connected in wrong sequence while you're unplugging/plugging them.

Hey I figured out the solution. I may be late but hopefully it helps someone in the future. It's just a relay gone bad. While fixing my taillight relay I switched it to a headlamp relay. Twilight was fix but the same problem occurred to me. Trunk won't open nor doors will unlock unless I had the key in, and when my door is open it says trunk is open as well. I couldn't figure what happened until I realize that I switch the relays and never bought a new one for the broken one. Hopefully this helps

yess, you can test the relay but another key thing that also is the exact cause is the fuses under the steering wheel. Driver side, idk which on the top of my head but look carefully, cause it took me awhile to realize this is one actually missing.
