My experience with Amsoil GL-4 75w-90 gear oil
So I ordered 3 quarts of Amsoil GL-4 75w-90 gear oil to replace my Redline MT-90 in my 02 6MT. This stuff is amazing! I had a wicked third gear crunch and now it's pretty much GONE. The only time I get it is when dropping quickly from 4th to 3rd. Trans shifts MUCH smoother and just feels better all around. Some people say that the smooth feel is just from putting new oil in to replace the old oil. I only had the MT-90 in there for 15-18K so I doubt that's it.
Just to add on a side note, I ordered one day from talkinghorse and had the gear oil at my door the NEXT DAY.
All around a great experience and I would 100% recommend both the Amsoil GL-4 75w-90 and the seller, talkinghorse to anybody.

Hmmm... interesting... I have Amsoil now and I think I liked MT-90 better, but I'll probably give it another shot. FWIW, neither one helped with the notchiness or "crunch". Thanks for the feedback on talkinghorse though, I got an Amsoil filter from HTPerformance and he was really good too. Nice to have options.

Nice review. I will be ordering some of this very soon. I had Specialty Formulations (when they were in business) fluid in, worked great. Had to flush, used Redline, not satisfied. Want to go to Amsoil now, and hope to get similar results despite I don't have a 3rd gear crunch.

+10 for talkinghorse.
I had the gl-5/6 spec Amsoil for a few thousand miles, similar to the Redline - and couldn't really tell a difference.
I have the gl-4 Amsoil in now, and same thing.
Crunch still is, and always HAS been there.
i simply FEEL better having a full-syn lube of the proper viscocity in my tranny.

The M-1 product you used is a GL-4/5 rated product and it is not well suited for this application. A GL-5 oil is designed for hypoid gears such as those found in a differential, and it has about twice the EP additives as a GL-4 oil does. Some people think that more (additives) is better, but in this case is isn't...the extra EP additives will adversely affect the way the synchros work in a manual trasmission...depending on the formulation, the additives can also have a long-term corrosive effect on the soft metals contained in the transmission.
A straight GL-4 gear oil such as AMSOIL MTG is what is specified..I think you will like this product.
thanks again, ed

Mobil 1 synthetic will eat the crap out of your synchros. It is not a gl-4 oil. It's gl-5 rated with tons of sulphur. If you don't believe me send an email off to mobil. I did so and they told me to get it the hell out of the tranny. Yet, it is what Nissan dealerships put in the car when you ask for synthetic.
