2002 infiniti i35 timing chain noise?
i have been researching this for days and have read all kinds of possibilities with this noise. I have been noticing a possible timing chain noise from the passenger side of the vq35 engine. im trying to get the tensioner access cover off but i removed the 3 bolts and it seems stuck on? also the noise is worst at idle in park or while revving, like clack clack clack. if the car is put in drive it becomes almost silent and runs so good, while driving it i hear a little clatter and pinging, even with 89 and 93 octane. not really sure what it is, it was low on oil and i added the necessary amount, when starting cold it sounds just fine with no noise but after about a minute the noise comes. any thoughts would be great, Im new to this motor so any help would be great. thank you.

Well I can save you the trouble and tell you that you won't see anything looking behind that cover.
The plastic liner on the slack side timing chain guide has broken and needs replacing. You can't see it from the access cover, and you couldn't replace it from there even if you could see it. Lots of labor involved to repair correctly.

Is that the piece the tensioner pushes on to push the guide of the timing chain? If it broke off is it now at the bottom of the oil pan? Why does all the racket stop when I put it in gear? Il be trying to open that cover and see if I see anything just curious. Thanks

Yes, that's it. Although it won't be at the bottom of the pan, it will have moved down the guide enough to affect the tension on the chain. I think you may be able to see that through that hole, now that I think about it.
