Hi, I'm getting a p0328 and initially thought it was a dirty or failing MAF due to the lack of power. I see that we can test with a resistor and wanted to pick one up to test the knock sensor but see the different wattages. Any one I should get?

are you sure its not a piggy back instance with this code? this code comes up everytime with other codes, when other codes are cleared it goes away. I rarely have heard of this code coming up on its on by it self.

It's the only code showing at this point.

I do randomly get the p1706 "high speed observed in Park" code, but this is a 6-speed manual gearbox so that is just a sensor that I need to eventually replace.

ahh gotcha, yea no idea on this one being an actual code on it's own. maybe a simple replacement may be the answer?

also did you try erasing the code and see if it stays away? (again thinking piggy back)

Yeah, I erased it multiple times and it immediately returns on starting the car.

I just received my pack of resistors and it kept the code from returning once cleared. I ordered a knock sensor and will have to some up with some time to install it.

From what I read, the P0328 is a sure sign of a bad sensor.

what OE brand did you find the sensor? Guessing OEM is long gone?

For some closure on my p0328 knock sensor issue.

I went to replace the knock sensor on my 2k2 Max using the shortcut method of not removing the upper manifold. Either before or after removing the bolt, the wire broke at the sensor connector. I had a bad feeling about that so I also bought a chinese sensor & wire combo thinking that I could use the wire from it with the name brand sensor I bought. It turns out the chinese ones use a propriatary connector so I was hosed there.

Being stuck, I installed the chinese sensor & wire since I needed the car the next day. Long story short, the car ran like pure *** with anything more than 1/2 throttle. You can just feel the timing being sucked away.

I went and ordered an OEM knock sensor harness, 24079-2Y000, and that combo with the Standard knock sensor and I am 100% fixed. I ordered the chinese unit from Amazon so it's being shipped back.

Protip if you have a 2002 or 2003 Max and want to go the shortcut route: when putting the 12mm bolt and new sensor on, use a thin strip of painters tape to take the bolt to the sensor and you'll have an easier time getting both to line up with the hole, then tear the tape to loosely screw the bolt before removing the tape. I was able to do the whole thing in under 15 minutes once I used that method.
