Heard a new noise from under the car (on and off low exhaust rumble).

Noticed that the braided flex exhaust pipe near the Y pipe is seperating from where it meets the solid pipe.

Can this be fixed by replacing just the braided flex pipe or by patching it?

Is the braided section the actual pipe or just a cover over a pipe inside??

The exhaust is stock

ok..I took a better look and the flex braid has separated at one end from the soild pipe but when the car is running I don't feel any exhaust leaks. Also I see a pipe under the flex section that looks fine.

So what is the outside flex braid for? To protect the inner pipe? Can exhaust sounds increase if the braided section is not intact?

Does it really matter if the braided section is not intact??

I always like to see if I can do a fix myself before taking her in.

I've read that you can just put a hose clamp on the loose end to secure the braided pipe. Anyone try that?

You can try the clamp but I think that you will find that it won't last very long. Once an exhaust pipe start to leak, it will keep developing holes in other spots. Replace it now and save yourself the constant patching.

You are right but the pipe under the flex braid looks fine and I can't feel any actual leaks.

Found a clamp in the plumbing section at Home Depot tonight and will try to place in over the failing braided section as a "fix" this weekend. We'll see if it works

you just asked for suggessions but was going to do your own thing anyways??? kinda pointless to ask IMO... goodluck with that, hopefully that last but like everybody who posted told you, just have an exhaust shop fix it and drive on... but whatever works for you

Stop being cheap..My local exhaust shop does flex pipes for $50-70. Why band-aid for something this cheap?

Better yet purchase a Vibrant Performance Flex section (Turbo inter-locked) and you should have any problems ever again!

thanks for the input...yes I am cheap..fixed it last with a plumbing clamp ...but now I know what to do if it doesn't hold up.. sounds like its not too expensive to fix by just cutting out the center section, which I didn't know before.

Correct route: Purchase one of these and head to a good Muffler shop and forget about as the years go by:

**** the cheap ****. Get a Warpspeed Y-pipe and just replace the damn thing yourself. Everything under there is bolt on. All you need are 17mm and 13mm sockets to get the job done.
